My jvc hr-s8700 has no hifi stereo playback

I have a jvc vcr hr-s8700 which won't playback in hifi stereo, it just stays on mono all the time. i've checked the obvious like stereo settings etc but when i stop playback the vcr will come back to hifi stereo whilst watching tv until i press play again then it will go back to mono again. it's not the fault of the tapes as they are pre-recorded stereo tapes and work ok in my other vcr. i've cleaned the heads and tape path with isopropyl alcohol but to no avail. i've even tried the manual tracking but no joy on that either. the picture is normal but with the lack of the stereo sound. any help will be gratefully received, thank you.

the above symptom was mis-understood. stereo playback is available through any connection whether it be coaxial, av scart etc in general.
the point i was trying to make was that HIFI Stereo wouldn't illuminate on the display during playback of stereo tapes but then if i pressed 'stop' it would then illuminate for over-the-air tv broadcasts.
to cut a long story short, it turned out to be faulty heads. in particular the HIFI head on the upper drum rotor.

The VCR stereo playback sound is only available through the AV/SCART connection and will not work through the coaxial antenna cable.

Cheers

Jvc vcr manual

It's probably the tape head is dirty. Try cleaning it first before playing your tape. Use clean cloth with a head cleaner solution (lighter fuid or 70% isoprophyl acohol will do). Or check your connectors, usually the yellow one (if RCA connectors) is for the video, the white or black for the left, red for right jack.

Poor picture when recorded on vcr

run a head cleaner through, a wet one is best and this should improve the quality of playback. Also check the condition of the vcr cassettes you are using, old ones do get worn out and leave dirt on the rollers and heads

JVC HR-S5902U / HR-S5912U S-VHS VCR POWER PROBLEM

Same problem with my HR-3911U after a power spike. Cracked open the box and as I suspected the fuse had blown. Removed fuse, plugged in and tested across connectors, 115v ac good reading. Replaced fuse (1.25a 250v) plugged in and nothing. The deck electronics had fried. Keeping for spare parts such as head and transport mech.

Time to get a new one and a better surge protector. My UPS logs show a 1200+v spike the day it died. We had storms all around us and thunder in the distance, but nothing close by and no rain, but the spike still made it to our inadequate surge protector.

I've read a lot of forums where other JVC owners have experienced the same problem. It appears to be inherent to these JVC Vcrs.
