Sounds familiar. I too have a problem with the MZ50 shutter sticking and film advancing 1, sometimes 2 frames at the touch of any button, including turning on and off. You can hear the motor winding for the shutter, but upon closer inspection (empty of film), i can see the shutter leaves jammed or slowly jerking past each other. it may take up to 10-15 "attempts" (ie: button depresses) to release the shutter. A shame because other wise the camera is perfect. Any idea on a reputable repairer in the Syria/Lebanon areas? JohnE

This sounds like mirror box motor problem ( see enclosed shot from our workshop ) : this cocks the shutter and controls mirror mechanism and when the drive dosnt work properly ( small nylon gear on the motor goes ) camera will develop the the sort of problems you describe.
Can be repaired but will cost $ 150-200 so it is relatively expensive repair.

Camera won't shutter

So that any responder does not repeat steps you have taken, what have you attempted to do to solve this issue?
  • Turning on and off the camera sometimes will fix it.
  • If you are in AF mode and the camera cannot get focus it will not fire the shutter.
  • If it is in a low light area, reason the flash popped up, and the camera cannot find something to focus on it will not fire the shutter.
There are a number of things that can cause this, some nothing to do with an errant camera.

Minolta maxxum 7000 beeping

I would look for a manual, it's been years since I played with one of these but it may mean that you need flash or the lens may not be in AF mode or the AF can not focus the camera.

My Nikon Nikkor 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S for Digital SLR lens does not seem to auto focus well. Sometimes the lens will focus and unfocus and refocus constinely. Is this normal??

You did not say which camera body you are using, but you probably have three different auto-focus modes on you camera. You might be using the wrong one.

The modes are as follows:
AF-A Mode: Camera automatically selects single-servo autofocus when AF-A subject is stationary, continuous-servo autofocus when subject is moving. Shutter can only be released if camera is able to focus. AF-S Mode: For stationary subjects. Focus locks when shutter-release button AF-S is pressed halfway. Shutter can only be released when in-focus indicator is displayed.
AF-C Mode: For moving subjects. Camera focuses continuously while AF-C shutter-release button is pressed halfway. Photographs can be taken even when in-focus indicator is not displayed.

Will not release shutter on canon 40D

Cannon is notorious for their auto focus and automatic setting to be very discriminant. If you are to close to your subject while in these settings granted your strobe will fire and your flash may flip into position but the shutter just wont work. Cannon is trying to tell you you are too close. You need to back up. If you are trying to get that close up and don't have the proper lens that's all you are going to get.
It is best to go long lens then go for your close up.

C Amera turns on, focuses, but will not fire.

The shutter may be damaged and need service. Look at the shutter if they look misaligned or even out of track tat is the problem. A repair tech could trouble shoot the camera, but repairs may exceed the cost of replacement.

Pentax MZ50/ZX50 - no photo when shutter is pressed

first make sure the mirror is fully down. if down
take your MZ50 to a camera store and try a different lens. if it does the same thing then your camera needs repaired. flex circuit,
if the different lens works then the lens needs repaired.

Will not operate in the autofocus mode

Take the camera off auto focus,if the shutter fires and you can manually focus, then the lens must be repaired. Take the lens to a camera repair shop and get an estimate.

Will not auto focus

"... Autofocus Lock ("AF-L"). Pressing the AF-L (Autofocus Lock) button enables the Nikon F4 to lock the focus. Simultaneous lock of AF-L and AE-L is possible. "'FREEZE FOCUS" - is another great function in the F4. It allows automatic shutter release when subject enters a pre focused distance - available with Nikon MF-23 and/or the 250 exp. MF-24 Multi-Control Back. i.e. with the shutter button fully depressed, the shutter is automatically fired when a subject comes into a preset manually focused position. This function is recommended for sports races because the racing course is usually known beforehand. It also works well in wildlife remote control photography, scientific, forensic and other technical photography. ..."
