I have a five year old Vizio TV that has no sound but the picture works perfectly. I was watching it the other day and there was a loud pop and the sound quit. I cycled power to the TV and everything works now but the sound. The wires to the speakers lead to the main control board and I am wondering if the board now needs to be replaced or if the main power board that feeds the control board may be the problem. Any ideas will be greatlyl appreciated.

Wow. This is more comon than I thought. My 50" Vizio plasma just went out as will after a loud pop noise. Power button is still lit. Sound continue to come through but no picture. I will dig into it and see if I can find a appropriate solution.

Without seeing the set and takig some measurements, I can't say for sure where the problem is, but the part info is listed below. These can be purchased through tritronicsinc.com. Please note that these boards have a "core" cost. This means that the "core" amount will be refunded to you once the defecive board is returned.

Your TV mainboard is damaged and need to be replaced, the price should be around $80-190 and you can do it yourself.

It's either the backlight lamp or backlight inverter is busted
due to a power failure or fluctuation. Here's how to determine which is which:
