Power, audio and video peob;em

I cannot turn TV on or off, either maqnually or via remote. When set is turned "on" Screen is black except for showing "Video 3"and volume indicator is to its max. When I try turning volume indicator "down" (with remote or manually) it will automatically return to maximum strength yet there is no sound. The only way to either turn set "on"/off" is by unplugging it from the power source.... Unit was manufactured in Nov. 2002. Thanks for your help

Depressing the menu button turns off the TV. Manual power button will start the set again but "volume" indicator appears at MAXIMUM with no sound or picture on screen. "Video 3" is still in same location and I still can't get to any menus. Thanks for the effort

I have the exact same problem, I believe the problem is a defective circuit board for the manual controls. As long as I use my cable remote, everything is OK. If I use the manual buttoms on the TV it starts messing up. I do not use the remote that came with the TV.

Depressing the menu button turns off the TV. Manual power button will start the set again but "volume" indicator appears at MAXIMUM with no sound or picture on screen. "Video 3" is still in same location and I still can't get to any menus.

Remote will not turn on the TV. When Turned on Tv will work okay for a while and then a square shows up in the center of the screen for set-up. It will also just go off by its selt

If my tv show a black screen and nothing els and nothing els what is whats the problem ?

    Black Screen,
I think there are 4 possibilities for your problem. In order:
    1. Is this a configuration issue with the set? Do you have the proper input selected? Did the grand-kids help you by re-configuring your set with random remote commands? Can you issue commands through the remote and get reasonable responses from the TV? A black screen could just be an incorrect signal source selected by the remote.
    2. Does the set have power? i.e. does the little light on the set come on when you turn it on? Be sure to test the AC line power to make sure the breaker has not tripped. You will get nowhere without power. If the set has power, then;
    3. Is there a video signal? Is the cable or satellite box (if you have one attached) Live? That is, does it's little light come on ? Again, gotta have power to work.
Cycling through the possible sources on the TV, one source should be over the air broadcast. Antenna or not, you should see snow on the screen when on this source, indicating that the set is trying to display something, it just has nothing to display. If you see snow, you can be pretty sure the set is working and you need to track down why there is no signal.
    4. If you have power and signal, and you still have black on the screen, you may have an internal problem in the set. A good test would be to borrow a TV set from a friend and swap out your set. If your friend's set works, you have a TV problem. If it doesn't, your set is probably fine and you need to look elsewhere. Note that a working friend's set rules out problems everywhere except your TV set.
You should try to correlate when this problem started with external events. Did you have a lightning storm? Spilled a drink? Sit on the remote? What happened (if anything) just before the set quit working?
If you have a problem with the set, I am not qualified to advise you on the repair, nor should you attempt it. There are serious voltages present in all TV sets, and you could DIE!
Take the set to a qualified service tech. and have them repair it, or take the modern route and recycle it before buying a new replacement.

Ps3 plays audio but does not show image on tv

Well you can just use the hdmi cable if you're going both audio and video in to your tv. With your hdmi cable you get the best quality for both.

But in anycase, it seems that your PS3 is set up to output video via HDMI cable. To reset our video output settings, simply power down your PS3 (turned off) and hold down the power button until you hear the second beep. (around 5-10 secs) Power back up and hopefully you'll have video via your av cable. Hope this helps.

Power is on but screen is black

I found this [temporary] solution at http://www.wiierror.com/wii-black-screen.php:

(via email, thanks Steven) This happened to me once, but I fixed it. Here is how:
    Eject the disk
Unplug the wii at the back
    Wait 1 minute
    Plug it back in
Turn it on from the remote
Press reset if it does not show up
Hold the power button to shut it off
    Turn it on once more.
I don't know how, but it seemed to work for me. The problem happened when I was trying to load the Mii channel. Hope this helps !

    (via email, thanks Andrew)
The first time I shut down my Wii, the light went orange (as it should). When I turned on the power with my wii remote the next day, the wii\'s light turned green but the screen was black.
The treatment was the same as from Black Screen, No Connection: Unplug the Wii\'s power supply unit, then replug; turn system on with wii remote.
The difference is: this problem can strike in more places than just by loading the Mii Channel. Also, I think the green light being on (yet there being a black screen) is a common symptom as well.
