Question about BenQ FP591 (Black, Silver) 15" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

BenQ FP591 15" monitor decides to die

I have two BenQ FP591 15" both of which had the same EXACT problem. The problem is that the LED light on my monitor flashes green and orange when it's powercable is plugged in and my computer is turned on but the monitor wont show anything. I can hear a faint 'screeching' sound everytime I try. As I said before, i have two exactly same BenQ FP591 15"'s and the same problem occured with both. I've had them for about 3-4 years now..not sure if the circuit board inside the screen needs cleaning or repairing... I'm stumped, help appreciated.

I havent changed my graphics card or my RAM since I bought the damn thing.

I'm not sure what you mean by it being internally or seperate.

By seperate do you mean with a power cable?

So you're saying theres not enough power getting to my screen? I've tried all the wall sockets in my house, and it still doesn't work.

It connects through the back of my computer to a power point adaptor where all my other plugs are.

okay, i've done that, but no luck. same thing happens either way. going back to my first post, i said that there was a faint screeching sound..i listened to it closer and it sounds like it was trying to power up everytime the LED light flashes green.

    e.g

Green LED - power up sound - Green LED - power up sound, continously.

Also, I found out that my screen has a backlight life of about 30,000 hours..

    say for instance, 30,000 \ 16 (16 being average hours a day) = 1875.

    1875 \ 365 days a year = about 5 years life..

I've had this screen for 4 years now..maybe its life just cut short a bit :P

I've tried calling them numerous times, but they never answer me, ha.

Perhaps I'll keep trying them over the next week.. maybe i'll head up there next weekend and get them to take a look at it.

Also, my dad has a larger version of my FP591.. i think it's 17" and he's had it longer than i've had mine.. no problems with his.

Also, if both my 15" screens decided to stop working on MY computer..perhaps there is something wrong internally inside my computer..maybe the dust pileup short circuted something in my screen..who knows..

I've checked everything you listed there. I plugged my screen to my dads comp, still no luck, i checked the cable for any cuts or stray wires sticking out but found none, and no bent pins on the plug or sockets on my computer.

looks like my monitor has finally lost hope D:

Strange that both should show the same symptoms don't you think? Have you changed anything computer wise? Graphics card or resolution? Screeching noise is a puzzle too. How are they powered - internally or via a separate power supply?

Yes Internally powered means the the power cable is full voltage[110/220 v] from wall socket to the device.
Externally mean the wall socket full voltage goes to a stabilized power supply where the out put voltage is typically 12v d.c. to the device[screen]

Or may be none at all
    Answer my question
how do the screens connect to the mains power supply- direct or through a 'box'
One screen down possible- two down and something other than the screens must be a possibility.

    now we are getting somewhere.
Connect the the screen directly to the main and not through the computer.

OK perhaps its time to cal it quits- but 2 screens?
Almost seems as it they have a built in self destruct button.
In all this have you tried the Tech Support at BenQ?

Hey have you actually tried them on another computer?
Also what about the data cable, same one is it?
Have checked for bent pins yet?
    Have I ready said that?

Well now is it worth taking one to a repair shop for a verdict before doing the ultimate?

Black out problem

Try a different known working monitor and hook it up to the computer. Turn on the computer and the monitor and see if you can get video. If you get video then you know the original monitor is bad.

If with the known good working monitor you still don't get video then you know its something either with the video card or the motherboard if you have integrated video.

Can't find video signal

If screen says "Signal cable not connected " all the time till power led switches to Amber chances are monitor is ok and problem is with graphic card or cpu.Connect to Known working CPU and confirm that monitor is the problem.
If same problem persists on another working cpu after changing signal cable, the interface board in the monitor could be defective.
