I keep getting: "Interface Error 50 - The connection is not stable"
My DVD Burner should be capable of burning 16x, but when I try to burn 16x discs I get this Interface Error 50 message. I've tried burning at slower speeds, and have tried different brands but all come up the same.
Could it be a firmware problem?
I'm using OSX10.3.9 and normally use Toast Titanium for burning - I'm not sure if that would make any difference.
I appreciate any help. Thanks.
Re: I keep getting: "Interface Error 50 - The connection...
believe I have a solution, but I propose it for Mac users only, since that is
what I use. My guess is that everyone on all the multiple blog sites use Macs
with iTunes installed. A few days ago I removed iTunes completely (using
CleanApp), restarted my iMac (new, 3.06 gb) and started testing with Memorex,
Sony and TDK CD-Rs. All have worked fine with no sign of the connection
have no explanation as to why this would be, but I can speculate that iTunes
grabs you burner and does not always release it to other software. If this works for you please post that info here
and also on the other blog sites I'm sure you checked for info on this problem.

Hello leslaw176, Your problem in your burning of DVD will be solve by just using other burning application like Nero DVD burner (which is the most stable and user-friendly software) software and by lowering your burning speed. There's an drop down menu before you burn you DVD which tells you what speed will be using try 16x in DVD. Its better to write normally than writing in full burst.
I would try simply copying one of the already completed discs using a stable and well known burning program like Nero.
Programs like Pinnacle can be very temperamental when exporting their projects to disc.
my sugestion is not to burn at 16x but to burn at 8x and use another burning software that allowsx you to burn at 8x speed as I've found I get alot of errors at max burn on my burner.
so I dropped the burnner speed and have not had any problems with burning.
hope this helps
Try this download page to update your firmware from 25/10/05, so if you bought your writer before this date maybe this will work, otherwise buy 8x discs.
The faster the discs are burned the more chance of errors there are, you should write at slower speeds for better quality.
Some disc brands just don't work with certain burners, and that can result in the said error. Did the store give you a different brand when they replaced your old batch?
this error can also be a result from burning too much to the disc, or from trying to copy protected content.
If you're burning movies, I would suggest that you close all other programs while burning, and burn at the lowest speed. Regardless to the error, you'll get a better quality result.
