Adding memory i got a toshiba sattelite m45-s165, iwanted to make it 1 gig of ram,so i got 2 stiks of 512..wen i opened the lid,there was only 1 slot for the ram.does that all it has or is there another mem.slot lid somewhere else? if there isnt does that mean i have to buy a 1gig stick? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for ddr

The 16gigs is storage. The 2 gigs it is referring to is what programs actually use to do they're thing. These are not the same memory-it is normal. You do not need to do anything.

(even if you added say a 32gig, you would still be operating programs from a 2 gig base.) it's how it works.

There should be a cover behind the laptop, unscrew these tiny screws and the back cover should open. Then you want to located where the rams are at. In some case the ram slot is already being used by the original rams and you need to take these out to install the new ram. Before hand, make sure your laptop support the correct type of the ram, in your case it will support ddr2 sdram up to 4gb. So pretty much once you locate the ram slot after opening the back panel... then just install it.

Hi,the Ram slot you are looking for is underneath the keyboard,if you have expertise on uncoupling and re-coupling a system then proceed,if not take to a qualified technician to that for you wont take any time.

There are laptops that do not have two slots for RAM. the EEE Pc's for example only have one slot.

take a closer look left or right side of ur laptop u may find it there

I am not sure what motherboard you have, but I would suspect that your computer will take at least 2 sticks of 512 MB each.
You didn't say what operating system you are using. If you are using Windows 98, 128 MB is fine. If you are using Windows XP, you should have at least 10x that, or 1GB to run correctly.
You really do need to know how much memory your computer will support, so you can go on the manufacturer's site and look it up or use the manual that came with the computer, if you still have it.

ur laptops memory slot is located under the keyboard, u have to carefully remove the thin cover from the top of ur keyboard to reveal the 2 screws, then un screw them to reveal the RAM cover. unscrew the two screws on that to reveal the RAM. be sure to take out ur battery b4 u do this.

please check RAM its 256 or 512. pick up RAM & change the memory slot.

You may remove unnecessary startup items by using MSCONFIG utility. You may keep only Toshiba Touchpad utility and Essential security programs. Perform maintenance like using Disk clean up and disk error checking. Also using the performance settings definitely will create significant change.
