Bad picture I have a samsung digital camcorder scd23. I've only used it a few times. The camera records alright but then when I play back there are thick horizontal lines across the picture, what could the problem be?

I did buy the head cleaner and that solved the problem, thanks!

Clean the head win a MiniDV cleaning tape. Do not use alcohol and cotton swab. Sometimes cotton lint may get stuck in the video head.

Try cleaning the tape path, especially the rubber pinch roller, with an alcohol swab....but how is the performance as a web-cam? (when connected to pc)? if same result, then problem is deeper, maybe CCD

Try resetting the camera to factory defaults from the menu. That often will help with sudden issues like this. Otherwise, the mic on the camera might have gone bad or is covered.

Hi! I have many 8mm and Hi8 camcorder tapes which have my kids' childhood recorded in them. Most of them have not been even played back once or twice. They are in good condition. My handycam doesn't work...

hi,wath i think that is the tape pathern on the camera is different from one to the other, and as
to be adjust and clean the head system,because the traking pulse as to be match for both camera
you will need to see a camera tech because it as to be made with an oscilloscope.

Hi,this sounds as if the LCD monitor is defect and will be in need of replacement.To confirm LCD defect,insure that problem is with display, by verifying video output to TV or PC.If video is alright through a/v outputs to TV,than LCD is defect.However,if TV output is also white,than problem lies on main camera PC board.Whichever the case I do think that warranty repair should apply on this model and suggest to contact mfg factory service.

Note - In few cases i have seen that even corrupted firmware could cause the same.

Recording very snowy and blurred.

If recordings are only blurry and snowy on playback on camcorder, but are OK on a different camcorder or on computer, then the problem is a dirty magnetic head. Use a mini-dv head cleaner tape. If recordings are blurred even on pc or on a different camera, then there is a fault. Faulty CCD sensor, faulty digital board, problem with internal ribbon connector, and dirty or defective lens assembly can cause this kind of problem.

Mode for playback of older 8mm tapes using Sony DCR-TRV730 ?

In 1990s Sony camcorder records movie in analog format so playing in digital camcorder like DCR-TRV730 doesn't mean it will be converted in digital format and you can not import file in PC for editing purpose. You will get analog signal while playing back old cassettes.

Regarding SP, LP speed, its decided at time of recording. Camera sens SP or LP automatically in playback and set itself accordingly.

If you want to convert old cassettes into digital format, connect our camcorder to DVD recorder and burn DVD which is digital format, copy DVD files in to PC and do desired editing.

Will not show anything in view finder

I sent my camera to a repair center for samsung and they replaced the ccd at no charge and it fixed the problem. I have used it and all is working and playing the old tapes as well. Thanks for your help, but got the answer from a blog as well as the address to send the camera to. Have a blessed day.

Camera records only sound

This is a known issue with this model Samsung camcorder. Please contact Smasung customer service to arrange to have the camera shipped to them for a CCD replacement. There should be no charge for this repair as Samsung is well aware of the issue. Hope this help you out. Joe Weibel customelectronics.org
