Question about Samsung HLP4663W 46" Rear Projection HDTV
I bought this tv second hand and it worked well for a while but now it has no picture and only sound. The tv turns on and off a couple of times on its own and then it goes off completely. The lamp light in the front of it flashing. I looked in the back and the lamp bulb never comes on. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Have a great day.
Carloes, You need to open the lamp housing door and take the lamp tray assembly out to visually inspect the lamp itself... If the lamp is blown it will be obvious and replacing it should restore normal operation. A shop can do this on a single home visit. The second part of your question has to do with the unit cycling (turning on/off a couple of times) This is because the lamp detection circuit is finding no load on the lamp circuit. Light is not lighting - - - Tv shuts down. This is merely a protection from causing other damage or more damage. The circuit doesn't know why there is no load volatge just that there is none. Good Luck Bill

My HLP4663W won't light up. I've replaced the lamp and the ballast to no avail. It just cycles three times and then I get the three blinking lights.
If I try to restart the TV over and over for about an hour I can usually get it to eventually start. Once the TV is warmed up, I can turn it off for up to about a half hour and get it to start up again without any difficulty.
Once the TV cools down, I'm stuck with it not starting again.
One thing I can add. The "timer" light on the front panel blinks from time to time when the TV is on (even though I'm not using any source of infrared). Does this have any diagnostic relevance?
I'm competent enough to replace parts inside the TV, I just need some help determining what the likely culprit is (or how to determine what the problem is).
