Question about Samsung HLP4663W 46" Rear Projection HDTV

Samsung HLP 5063WX Sound but no picture

I bought this tv second hand and it worked well for a while but now it has no picture and only sound. The tv turns on and off a couple of times on its own and then it goes off completely. The lamp light in the front of it flashing. I looked in the back and the lamp bulb never comes on. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Have a great day.

My HLP4663W won't light up. I've replaced the lamp and the ballast to no avail. It just cycles three times and then I get the three blinking lights.

If I try to restart the TV over and over for about an hour I can usually get it to eventually start. Once the TV is warmed up, I can turn it off for up to about a half hour and get it to start up again without any difficulty.

Once the TV cools down, I'm stuck with it not starting again.

One thing I can add. The "timer" light on the front panel blinks from time to time when the TV is on (even though I'm not using any source of infrared). Does this have any diagnostic relevance?

I'm competent enough to replace parts inside the TV, I just need some help determining what the likely culprit is (or how to determine what the problem is).

Carloes, You need to open the lamp housing door and take the lamp tray assembly out to visually inspect the lamp itself... If the lamp is blown it will be obvious and replacing it should restore normal operation. A shop can do this on a single home visit. The second part of your question has to do with the unit cycling (turning on/off a couple of times) This is because the lamp detection circuit is finding no load on the lamp circuit. Light is not lighting - - - Tv shuts down. This is merely a protection from causing other damage or more damage. The circuit doesn't know why there is no load volatge just that there is none. Good Luck Bill

My Samsung HLP-4667W DLP TV has no picture when I turn it on.

The color wheel can be ruled out by looking at it---it faces the lamp and can be seen---look to see if any segments of the wheel are missing or if the wheel is totally shattered.

Other than the wheel I am concerned by "blue splotches etc" as it might be a DMD gone bad. Look at the attached photo and the color wheel first.

Make sure your tv is on the right input first of all. The newer flat panel2.gif lcds combine the componenent video (red , blue, green) with the composite video and audio (yellow, red, white). If your tv is on the component input then you hear audio from the composite input since the audio inputs (red, white) are shared. Look for a source or tv input button on your remote or the tv itself and try pressing this button unti you see a picture with sound.

I just used this information to solve the same problem...I ended up disconnecting the cable box and restarting the box until I got to the info panel for the box...the picture magicly appeared with several options. I picked one and problem the faq's on the search engine. lh in dak

No sound or picture

HLP, HCN HL-S The Start-up Problem or/and
3 LEDs in the front blinking.

Unplug the set, pull out the lamp module (not all the way - leave it on the track) and push it back in.

Power issues (Tv not turning on) were typically due to faulty ballast. While the TV reports a bad lamp it is the ballast itself causing the issue. Samsung is well aware and will replace both the ballast and the lamp (since the lamp can be prematurely aged but the bad ballast). After replacment most people stop having issues.
