Canon powershot hi, i own a canon s1 is camera for about 18 months, never had a problem with it, but today it's been useless: when i try to take a photo (i've tried all modes) the LCD or EVF shows me an overexposed image- i can barely see what i'm shooting, andthe playback is even worse- i can see the image, but behind horizontal white lines that cover the entire screen.. SOS

Canon powershot camera won't shoot picture

Your problem is probably the same as mine, though my camera is a PowerShot S1 IS. That is very much the same symptom mine had, and doing some research online, I found out that some Canon cameras (there is a listing) came out with a defect in their CCD (main digital sensor), which presents this failure after some months of use. Canon will fix the problem free of charge, if you take it to a Canon Service Center.
Hope this helps.

E 18 error what is this

Most probably this is due to dust accumulated on the lens barrel, which prevents the lens from closing properly. Try cleaning the lens barrel. Check for any dust particles on the lens barrel (the part that retracts) and try again. If you can't get it out yourself, take it to an authosized service center.

Blank black screen for my canon powershot S1 IS digital camera

This is a common problem with S1 IS and it is caused by faulty CCD sensor. Note that you can playback captured images without any problem but in capture mode all you get is blank screen. Will have to go to Canon but note that Canon repairs these models free of charge when it is the CCD sensor that stops working.

Horizontal Lines after-photo.

Hi, I don't know if this is going to be your problem, but recently the Canon anounced a recall for Canon S1 IS, due CCD problems. Most people with this problem complains of lines on the image, or the image going completely black. Some are having their CCD changed, but most of the users are having their S1 replaced for a brand new S3. Contact the Canon Technical Support, and maybe you get a S3 for free...
