This may help others with scanning issues:
I just bought a Brother MFCJ6510 printer/scanner and was nearly driven cracked trying to get the scanner to work as it was not talking to the PC, even though as a printer it was working fine. Realised eventually that it was just the Brother Control Centre 4 it wasn't talking to. After hours of re-installing software and updates, etc, nothing worked.
The solution: I went into Control Panel on my PC (I use Windows XP), to the Scanners and Cameras section, and in there the Brother Scanner was visible and could be used from there, Click on it to open the Windows Scanner and Camera Wizard and use that. Further, by right-clicking on it and going to properties I choose the software to start when it talks to the PC. I abandoned the Brother CC4 and set it up to start the Scanner and Camera Wizard if I choose 'Scan to Image' on the scanner control panel, and to open Photoshop if I 'Scan to File' on the scanner. Works fine either way, just make sure you choose the right dpi setting to suit your needs.
Hope this helps somebody else as frustrated as I was.
Try this: 1. Locate the Brother Control Center
application. It will be running in the system tray (usually near the
system clock). Right click on the Control Center and left click on
CLOSE. NOTE: The update cannot be performed if the Brother Control
Center is left running. 2. Click START -> RUN or in the START SEARCH LINE: 3. Type in X:\PROGRAM FILES\BROTHER\CONTROLCENTER3\SKIN\ (Note: Replace X: with the letter of your local disk drive.) 4. Right click on the MODERNSTYLE folder 5. Select CUT 6. Click START -> RUN or in the START SEARCH LINE: 7. Type in C:\PROGRAM FILES\BROTHER\CONTROLCENTER3\ 8. Click EDIT -> PASTE 9. Restart the PC 10.
The Control Center will open and you should see the icon appear
nearyour system clock if the control center does not start
automatically: Open the Brother Control Center 3 by clicking START ->
(ALL) PROGRAMS ->BROTHER -> (MODEL NUMBER) -> CONTROLCENTER 3.
Your issue should be resolved.
You can download that from www.brother-usa.com. Look near the top-right corner for the blue box labeled Service & Support, and click "Downloads." You'll have to select your machine's family (Multi-Function) and model, then your computer's Operating System. For most machines, Brother offers a choice of barebones drivers or the complete package; you'll want the full package to get the Control Center. Brother requires that you install the driver package before you plug the machine into your computer. If you have already plugged it in and let Windows try to install a generic driver or something, you may need to download and run a utility for uninstalling the machine completely before installing the package properly. That utility program is probably at the bottom of the page of drivers on the Brother site.
Had the same problem. The solution was:
- uninstall the brother software with the application in the brother folder
- reinstall mfl-pro Suite
- install update to Controlcenter2
- install updated drivers
It then worked and I could finally scan over the network, for the first time ever!
