My chrystaleye webcam wont work with skype

SKYPE VIDEO PROBLEM
To test if the Logitech QuickCam is functioning, check the USB cable; make sure it is connected properly. Then click on Start - All Program - Logitech - Logitech QuickCam and see if you can get the camera to capture your image/video. If this works then the fault is with the Skype configuration. Sometimes the WEBcam settings drop off and the WEBcam need to be selected again. Open Skype - Tools - Options - Video Settings and select the Logitech QuickCam Also check the Audio Settings for the Microphone THEN click on Save. Avoid connecting the WEBcam to an USB hub. SKYPE MICROPHONE PROBLEM
If the person cannot hear you then, either your microphone driver not installed or not working OR the microphone is not configured in Skype.
To test your microphone then click on Start - All Programs - Accessories - Entertainment - Sound recorder. Then record your voice and then play it back. If this is OK then the microphone need to be configured in Skype.
To configure the microphone - Open Skype - Tools - Options - Audio Settings for the Microphone THEN click on Save.

My logitech web cam every time i use skype it keeps asking me to shut down any program thats using my web cam

Your webcam may need an update. If you click on the webcab toolbar, there should be an option to update. Otherwise, go to logitech.com, select "support", select "product support"; then follow the options to enter model number or product type.

I am new at using Skype. I have had a logitrech Communicate stx Web Cam installed. I notice there appears to be what one would think are microphone holes at the base of the lens as well as the writing...

You are correct.
For Logitech to work with Skype you need to install the Logitech driver for your model WEBcab. Then you need to configure Skype to use the Logitech WEBcam and microphone.

To test if the Logitech QuickCam is functioning, check the USB cable; make sure it is connected properly. Then click on Start - All Program - Logitech - Logitech QuickCam and see if you can get the camera to capture your image/video.
If this works then configure Skype. Sometimes the WEBcam settings drop off and the WEBcam need to be selected again. Open Skype - Tools - Options - Video Settings and select the Logitech QuickCam
Also check the Audio Settings for the Microphone THEN click on Save.
Avoid connecting the WEBcam to an USB hub, connect it directly to the computer's USB port.

Quickcam for SKYPE

Hopefully you have not loaded the quickcam software yet. If you have, hopefully you only loaded the drivers for the cam and not the logitech control panel for the camera. If you loaded the control panel, it loads everytime you start your computer and runs minimized in the bottom status bar. When you start Skype, it activates the camera and so does the logitech control panel. Thus you have two programs trying to control the cam at the same time and you have nothing but problems thying to get it to work. You will need to right click on the logitech control icon and exit the program before starting Skype. After you start Skype got to tools, options and set your camera and mic. settings from the drop down menu. You can then go to Skype test call and see if the settings are correct. Skype allows you to turn on the video or off when you make calls to others. This is so they can't see you, but you can see them during the call unless they have theirs turned off also. Good Luck, RAC
