Power light on but computer won't 'fire-up'

Hi, I have an NEC Powermate (ES slimline), when I try to start the machine the green power light comes on and the orange (to tell you the hard-disc is doing something) light flashes as does the cd drive light but the computer won't start. Any suggestions? I have tried unplugging the machine and starting from scratch but it doesn't seem to matter. It did this before but worked after several attempts - I have now been trying the machine for 4 1/2 hours but to no avail. Any suggestions would be most appreciated - thank you for your time. Pam

HI, I recently moved across the country and after having set up my PC again I'm having a problem. When I turn the power on the status light for the monitor stays orange (it usually turns green and the monitor powers up). The tower seems to be running fine, I can hear the cooling fans and there is the normal light that flashes at random intervals like normal, but the monitor doesn't respond. And then when I turn off the tower the status light (which stays solid when tower is on, flashes during Sleep and is off when tower shuts down) stays on. What does this mean, any ideas as to whats wrong?

My nec powermate p3020 is automatically getting shutdown as soon as windows loaded

Have you tried your hard drive on another machine?Or maybe tried another hard drive on your machine?
Could well be a faulty hard drive.
Also try disconnecting the hard drive and connecting it again.

Hi , I have a Powermate Eco and after moving house it will not start up. It usually has the LED go green on power up and the hard drive kicks in and starts but now it flickers green but then goes amber and...

There might be a fault with the power supply. Take it to your local computer repair shop and they will be more than happy to test it for you for free.

How do I restart my computer from the hard drive do I press ALT and F10 or can you tell me how to set up from a XP pro boot disc

if you want to boot setup from xp pro boot disc, you have to go first to the bios/cmos setup of your system, from there check the boot order, if you find that the first boot device is your hard drive change it, make your cd/dvd rom your first boot device and second your hard drive save the setting that you have made and restart your pc, before you restart insert the installation disc, then reboot, from there it will automatically boot in the xp pro set up disc

your power supply maybe busted, if you have another pc it not that difficult, you can open up the assy and removed the power supply to try and test it on the other pc affected, pls make sure of the connections and connectors, it is not that difficult

Powermate ES setup cannot find hard drive

Do you have the recovery discs that originally came with the computer? If you do, I would use these to reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows. This would be the fastest option.

To do this:
Insert the disc into the CD-ROM
During boot-up and before the 'Use last known good configuration screen' you're speaking of, it'll ask you do 'hit a key to boot from CD' -- Do so
Follow the on-screen instructions. Your objective is to clean the hard drive completely (reformat) and reinstall windows (recover).

If you do not have the recovery disc that came with the computer, you can use the exact same steps above with a Windows XP disc. Be sure to 'format' and 'install' windows--not just 'repair.'

Re-boot computer when all finished.
