When I listen to what I've recorded there is only a high tune. Just an hour ago everything worked perfectly and I have not made any changes in the settings (at least not that I'm aware of). It doesn't seem to matter how I record (telephone conversation or mic). It started in a middle of a recording in which everything sounded normal in the beginning.

Hi, I'm having problems with the telephone recording using a digital cordless phone. Once the hanset is picked and conversation is going on, the unit does not record???

I had the same issue on my 2488neo. What I found that worked for me, was during the mixdown, make sure the solid levels on the right side of the mini screen are at the top of the black line, don't worry about it sounding too loud. After your mix down is done, pick a mastering tool that best fits your style of music, during this process any levels that go over peek will be eliminated. Once your mastering is done, burn a CD, but don't finalize the CD, so you can use it again to keep checking if the volume does not match that of a regular CD (a known band CD from the store) this worked for me, hopefully it will for you as well..
When you play the video back and get no sound are you doing this on your camera or on the computer? I have the same camera, and noticed that when I playback something I've recorded I don't have sound either, mind you I don't have static either. But once I've uploaded the video onto my pc the sound is there.
It is probably a hard to find record electronics problem and possible that the record bias is staying on partially. This will erase partially the audio and apply the clicks. You are going to need a good Technician for this. Try this guy- I have confidence in him. I have a Dell Inspiron 1525. I used Skype ages ago and returned to it a couple of days ago. No one could hear me. I researched for 20 hours, downloading drivers, checking EVERY setting possible and NOW have got the ANSWER. The wires in the Microphone Array are fatigued. My microphone works perfectly when I tilt my lcd screen half way down. Go to Webcam Manager, Tools, Audio controls, the microphone has 2 bars which go green when you talk into it. Tilt your screen and watch the bars go up and down. Not the answer you probably wanted but as long as you skype with your screen half tilted everything is good to go
I had the same problem but changed the recording mode to SP. I used a DVD-RW to high speed dub a two hour film and a documentary about a holiday island.
Have you taken a look at the edge of the tape? tracks 1 and 2 on a cassette are usually next to the edge and you may have a bad batch of tapes that have the edge damaged.
Another possible but not a likley problem might be the tape is out of spec. for the width, and your heads MAY have a little wear from use, and are trying to act like tape guides. If the tape is slightly wider than the grove worn in the head, the tape would be lifted at the edge and not make contact to the head.
It is not electronic as you have diagnosed this with other tapes.
Give it a try and see!
