Using my Canon A95 recently - took 20 second video clip then switched camera off. Next time I tried to switch it on the camera remained dead - no power. Replaced batteries with previously re-charged ones which have worked before - no joy. Bought new set of batteries - sill no joy. All covers (battery/flash card) are properly closed, so anyone got any ideas?
I ain't so lucky I'm in the UK too!!!! Generally speaking the cost pf packing, shipping repair, at any level is well on the way to the price of the next more recent higher specification device. Judging by the way the Megapixels go up by the week seemingly, settling for a replacement camera is usually the best option. I had a cheap[old] Fuji come my way because it had gone blurred and blue - sure sign of a CCD failure as this was at some time the subject of a recall for the problem I checked out Fuji Their response was to say no longer repaired but has a 1/3 off a new camera when I quoted a reference number. That seems to be the way to go.

Canon customer support will tell you what exactly what is going on[or not] I suspect a circuit failure- if the camera is out of warranty then a new camera will probably bt the answer.

Thanks for your interest jackboy. I have been told that a simple fuse on the circuit board is usually the fault. I'm in the UK and Canon UK don't seem as helpful as their counterparts in the USA. The camera was eight months out of warranty and the best they have come up with is a full repair, clean and a further 6 months warranty. The fixed price for this is £72 (about $140). I reluctantly settled for this, although I could now get a decent camera for the price of this repair, but perhaps not as higher spec. as the A95. Electronic goods here in the UK are generally about a third or more higher in price than in the USA (you lucky people!).
You're right 'Guest' about the repair and shipping costs versus the price of a new camera. However, I opted for the £72 repair because I wanted a camera with OPTICAL viewfinder as well as an ADJUSTABLE lcd screen which is useful for shooting over the heads of people in front of you or avoiding sun reflection. Canon are one of the few who provide both these features. Canon's A640 appears to be the cheapest current one that has these features, but it retails at around £180! There are cheaper Canon's, but they have the unprotected fixed lcd screen. Hopefully my repaired camera will now be trouble free!!
Conclusion. Camera repaired by Canon UK. New circuit board fitted. They also replaced the top cover which had slight scratches. Now works ok again and has a further 6 months warranty. Will be worth the £72 I paid IF IT LASTS!!
CONCLUSION. Camera repaired by Canon UK and returned quickly by UPS. They fitted a new printed circuit board and as a bonus they replaced the top cover which had become a little scratched. I also have a further 6 month warranty. The £72 charge will be worth it IF IT LASTS!
my a95 worked great 5 days ago and now it won't power up. not one peep out of the poor thing even after changing the batteries twice... makes me terrribly sad. i love this camera.
