I'm trying to burn a playlist from itunes. I never had problems in the past. We had our desktop fixed after a power outage. If that is the case I'm at a loss because the man that came and refurbished it has moved out of state.Since the repair job I had to reload itunes & other software. So the symptom is when I put in a blank cd-r in, a green light blinks slowly for 5 blinks then an orange light blinks real fast then the tray opens.

I put a blank cd-r in to burn a playlist from itunes a green light flashes about 5 times real slow then an orange light blinks real fast then the tray opens. I've burned many a cds before a computer repair after a week long power outage. I did a drive check both cd and dvd are good. I'm not a computer whiz to say the least and I appreciate any advise you can give if you get this message I want to thank you for even reading my situation.

Try cleaning it out with air from a can, possible something stuck in it. Also might want to try uninstall and reinstall device. This could also cause problem as well

SOURCE: dvd/cd drive door keeps opening and closing by itself

You might try blowing out the drive with canned air. Sometimes dust over the sensor can cause this problem

Artec wsm-52x Problem...My CDROM drive keeps opening and closing. I tried disabling it in Device Mgr, but the problem still exists. I also uninstalled it in Device Mgr, but still it keeps opening and...

make sure that the cd rom is getting enough consistent power test all leads that are attached to the cd rom including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty

or it might be a registry problem
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

hope this helps

I have a HP desktop PC and the DVD/CD ROM keeps opening and closing. How can I fix this? Thanks

It has gone faulty, this is not normal behavior. You will have to replace it. Check the button on the front, ensure it isn't jammed on?

My cd-rom drive keeps on opnening and closing?can you help me? i remove the IDE cable but it still opens and close...TNX

Dude CD ROM's are designed to close all by themselves in case if there is anything stuck in between, just unplug the CD Rom,and u might find a small hole, kindly punch in it using a pin so that the front portion of cd rom will open and clean up the entire drive using a soft brush(b careful about lens present inside)and fix it back and check out whether it works out

Dvd/cd drive door keeps opening and closing by itself

If the trouble isn't being caused by some screwy virus or software problem, the best solution is to replace the drive. New drives are quite inexpensive and widely available in retail stores (at higher prices) and online.

Internal CD ROM will Not Open

Unless you can do electronic repair yourself and have the schematics for the drive it will be far cheaper and easier for you to simply replace it. Any DVD drive for computers will fit in there. I would buy a new one rather than used so you make sure and get the software with it. Replacing the drive is a 30 minute job at most.
