Installed but will not Record.

When I try to Record from VCR, pop-up message says "The device is not available, or is being used by another application. Please close any applications that may be using the device and try again." When I click on Settings, I get the following message: "The device cannot be detected or is not supported." I am connecting the device via USB port to my PC. I have 3 ports on my PC and have tried all 3. Same msgs.

Where do you install this driver from?

  • Anonymous Jan 18, 2009

I uninstalled the program and started over. When I first installed this, the install Wizard produced a warning about Microsoft windows, and I cancelled. However, the program continued to install, but I couldn't record. So, I uninstalled, then re-installed, and when the Wizard warning appeared, I clicked to Continue. I'm assuming that was the problem because that was the only difference in the two attempts. I record now. My new issue is that when I use Microsoft windows movie maker to try to edit the captured picture and audio, I get no sound. If you have more questions, let me know. Hope this helped.

I am having the same problem as talga75 and when I went to ionaudio.com to get the driver it asks me if I have PAL or SCART. I have no idea what that is or which driver to choose. Can someone walk me through getting the correct driver from ion. I am on my third uninstall and reinstall getting ready to do the 4th one. HELP!

After many attempts to get this thing to work I am ready to return it. I have installed/uninstalled several times, went to the web site to download drivers, etc. Not being the most techo person I am going to following 22marri's instructions. My question is to 22marri. Are you in the UK or did you just use that version? That may be my problem. I am in the US. If this doesn't work it is going back!

Many many thanks Talga 75, So in summary for non-tecno people like me, go to www.ion-audio.com and click on Support then docs and downloads then home audio then 'all' then VCR2PC and download the PAL hardware document for UK videos. You may have to 'unzip' it (your computer may ask if you want to do this) Then click on your microsoft coloured symbol (where it says click here to begin) and click on the control panel. Then click on systems, then on hardware then on device manager then search down for VCR2PC and click on this. Then choose update driver and your computer will install what you need. Then go back and click to open the EZ convertor icon on your computer to open the programme and it should now work. This is for the hardware but if the software hasnt loaded you can go to the control panel then click on add/remove programmes and add the VCR 2PC programme here. You will need the EZ VHS disc in your computer throughout. GOOD LUCK!

2979 I am in the UK. I think the only difference will be that you have to download the programme from the website for US versions of DVDs and not PAL??

I had to re install and go to www.Ion-audio.com and download the driver ( the top one) then I went to the control panel then to systems/hardware/device manager/ then click on VCR2Pc and chose update driver then it allowed me to go thru the install wizard process. thanks for all your help!

    Dear 2979

The disc only lets you install the program to the desk top not to the hard drive.Do that first then Go to the ION website then click on support and click on the first one ( for PALS) then go to the start button on your computer then to .. control panel... change control panel to classic view (located on the top left hand side) then go to system.. then to hardware... then to device manger.. then look under sounds and video's and you should see

VCR2 just click on it and it should allow you to install thru the install wizzard.

I had put mine in the box 3 times and I said if I put it back in there one more time I was taking it back to the store! and that time I did it!

    I am in the US.

I have windows XP desktop and windows vista laptop and it work for me. I have now turned 2 vhs's into DVD's.

    best of luck to U

I have a Goldstar VCR and I want to record a tv program using it. How do I do it?

Most Goldstar VCRs only have an analog tuner. (TVs do not often have an option to output their video to another device.)

So first what is the source of the TV program? If it is an OTA analog or CATV cable. Set up the VCR normally by connecting the incoming signal cable to the VCR and then use the coax out to the TV. Scan for channels and set the VCR to record the desired program. (Either use the timed record or one touch record method.)

If your source is digital, you will need a set top box (either a digital to analog converter or cable box). To split an incoming OTA signal between your TV and the converter box, you can use a switch or a splitter. (A splitter will give lower signal strength to both the TV and the converter box.)

Depending on the box, you can either connect a coax cable from the box to the VCR and then to the TV or composite video from the box to the VCR. If you use coax, set the converter to channel 3 or channel 4 and record that channel. Otherwise set the VCR to record Line 1.

To record, put in a tape with sufficient space available with an intact safety tab. For One Touch Recording, set the VCR to the desired channel and tape speed. Then press Rec. Press several time for a timed recording. For Timed recording, press Menu > Program. Press Select and move through the list to program day to record, the start/stop time, and channel, etc. When done, press Menu to save the setting. The timer light should come on (most VCRs will turn off).

I hope this helps.

I have October 2008 unit. Just newly opened the box today. I've tried on four computers today. I'm ome tonight on a Vista Gateway. When I get ready to record the 'record' lights up and...

You need to find out what's wrong before you can fix it, so:

These instructions are for WinXP (WinVista or Win7 will vary).

Login to the system as an "administrator"
START > Control Panel > System > Hardware (tab) > Device Manager (button) >
1. click VIEW (drop down menu)
2. select "Show Hidden Devices"
3. select each USB device one by one, checking each for any entries under "Conflicting Devices,"
under the "Resources" (tab). If a device has no resources tab, then just check "Device Status"
to see that Windows thinks that "This device is working properly."

What you're checking for here is resource conflicts (DMA I/O addresses). In the case of a conflict,
you'd get "device not available or being used by another application."

Can the sansui vcr/dvd combo record vcr tapes to a dvd?

No, the DVD section only plays DVDs, to record VCR tapes to DVD you need a ripping device that digitalize audio and video (convert step) and then transfer to DVD specifications this data to disk (record step). The easiest way to do this is using a USB video capture adapter connected to your PC with a DVD recorder drive installed, the software to do this commonly comes as a bonus in the setup disk of the adapter.

1. Check in your Device Manager whether any Yellow coloured Circle with Black Exclamation is present, if yes then your driver is not installed properly.
2. See whether your device is recognised, If not try uninstalling the device driver and software and unplug the device. Restart the OS (do not connect the device), Install the Software and driver and after completion or if it asks to plug in the device, plug in the device and power on.
3. Still having the problem, check the latest updates or patches if required from the website, if nothing helps try it on another PC or reinstall OS in your PC.

VCR doesn't record since Comcast installed digital box

Try this..Run cable line into VCR in, cable from VCR out to box, then cable from box to TV..this might work...I have done this for YEARS and it is never failed. You can then watch and record 2 things at once.
