Hello, I have a 5-year old rear projection Panasonic PT53WX42 TV. The TV was working great until the other night. I put the TV on and it appeared that it was out of convergence. I can see red, blue & green images of everything that is on the screen. I tried to adjust the convergence but with no luck. The problem appears worse on the right side of the screen (the red image is more prevalent there). Nothing was changed with my set-up (i.e. speakers, lamps and other items around the TV). Does anyone have an idea of what the problem might be? I don't have any experience with TV repair, but I want to know if I need to contact a service provider to repair the TV or can i repair it with a little bit of guidance. Thanks for all your help. Anthony
Chris Palmer gives detailed instruction on how to replace the convergence IC's. Go to his blog at: http://cmpalmer.blogspot.com/2006/11/fixing-my-own-tv-part-ii.html
If you do not have any electronic experience I would doubt that I could talk you through the repair. You have bad convergence ICs. This is a common problem. I sometimes do a set a day. They are not expensive and not hard to replace if you have done it or have an electronics background. Cost should be between $100 and $200 US. Call a reputable repair shop and you should have it working fine in no time. Good luck.
