Question about 2wire (1000-000057-000) Modem
Reset the modem(unplug it for 30 seconds, plug it back it) first of all, of course. This will fix 90% of all modem problems.
Now, you only have the problem when you are connected through the WAN, right? If the problem isn't also while connected through the LAN, you might need to forward some of the ports that the programs are using. The best way to figure this out would be to call your ISP (internet service provider) and ask them how you would go about port forwarding on the particular modem you are using. Also, you'd have to figure out which ports need to be used by each program. The best way to figure that out is defined in three words: Google Knows Everything.
The purpose for port forwarding is to help your router determine where to send packets of information over a wireless network. The reason your connectivity drops for only a few seconds could be the cause of the information packets you are supposed to be receiving aren't being sent to your laptop, and instead being lost in space. This happens fairly often when dealing with FTP (file transfer protocol), which is what Limewire is using when you download and upload content.
Aside from that, the modem could just be junk and you might need a new one. Try buying a new one (beats the hell out of renting one, anyway), and test it out. If it doesn't work either, just take it back for the refund.

You myt wanna call the 2wire department coz there is some certain settings that you need to access on the user interface on the modem----especially when you are connected wirelessly---all you need to change is the wireless channel to 10 and the power settings to 10 as well to get a good connection....if you are having problem on launching a page try deleting cookies, deleting temporariy files, setting ur privacy to low, clearing cache and deleting some dial up connection saved on your internet properties(just launch a web browser, go to tools, go to internet options)=)
