Take a flashlight and shine it on the screen when you have sound, look very close, can you see a video image? If so the inverter is probably bad.
Let me know and I will assist further.

Black screen

If its LCD get the room very very dark and turn on--with a flashlight near the screen look closely at the screen to see if you see a very faint image of the picture or not---Most LCD flatscreen's (not Plasma) use what is called a back light to light the screen--light source.

If a faint picture can be seen that way the light is not on.

Phillips 47" flatscreen sounds still

If the TV menu displays your problem is most likely not the Tv , but is caused by the signal source:
Cable box or connections. Reboot everything test using other sources like a DVD player to isolate the problem.

47in Phillips-tv picture goes black still has

Could be the signal board has a bad cap, in this case it sounds like you are getting intermitten power to the inverters....when the tv goes down and of course you have audio....Shine a flashlight on to screen and see if you have a picture...look carefully. If this is the case..you have the above problem!

Phillips LCD TV - sound but no picture

You probably have a bad inverter board or possibly power supply. Both can cause this problem.
