Kohler Generator won't start

I have a Kohler Residential 11RMY generator, powered by natural gas. The main natural gas line to my house was shut off to have some work done. When the gas was turned back on, the plumber turner on all of my gas appliances to bleed the lines of any air and make sure they all worked again. But we forgot about the generator. Now it does not strat and I think that maybe I somehow need to bleed the gas line to purge any air? I looked at my operations manual, but it doesn't tell me anything. The generator turns over just fine, but it doesn't seem to start. Or if it is starting, it shuts down in seconds.

Your gas pressure is too low and you may not have a large enough supply pipe. You need at least 10 inches of water column with the engine running to operate an LP vapor fueled engine. Because the engine is starving for fuel, its governor opens the throttle to WOT (so it goes to high revs) but there isn't any fuel to make horsepower with so the output voltage falls and the undervoltage alarm trips.

SOURCE: Kohler 11rmy-q53 generator.

The first thing I would do is to clean and dry air filter. If it is a foam material you can use a warm water and a few drops of dish soap.Rinse thoroughly and let dry. I also would try a small amount of octane booster in my gas. Hope this helps you.

SOURCE: Coleman Powermate PM0545007 generator.

The generator has a low oil level sensor. Fill the oil all the way to the FULL mark and try it again.

IF you still have the problem after adding oil; repsond here and I can still help you. Just want to get this off as it has been 4 hours since your post.

SCFO is either what is displayed just before it cranks or when it is first powered up. Sounds like the controller may have forgotten what engine its running or is getting a bad run signal from the start switch. In either case a 1 year old controller should not be doing this. I would try having a local dealer doing a firmware update as there were quite a few for this controller and if this doesn't fix the problem I would start talking warranty with whoever replaced the controller.

Kohler House Generator powers up when our electricity goes out but then powers right back down?

That is an engine running issue, not a battery issue. :>D The first thing to check would be fuel supply. Can you start up manually and keep it running. If you can, it is the contactor that senses your loss of mains power and switches the generator on. It is not maintaining the connection, or is is misdiagnosing the power from the generator as power from the mains.

I'm planning to install a 20 kilowatt Kohler whole house generator. After super storm Sandy we lost power for 13 days and got by on a 4 KW generator having to find gasoline and feed it to the gene

Ok, First of all the gas line to the generator should be separate from the other appliances, so yes you have to run a separate 1" line from meter to generator. The closer the generator is to the meter the better. The pressure should be fine if you stick to this. Also you will probably need a bigger meter depending on what you have now. PSI or WC is not the same as BTU's...The meter size controls BTU's and the regulator controls WC. Without knowing what you have for each generally the meter size will need to be upgraded.

Natural gas generator shuts down after about 5 minutes and won't keep running.

How big a unit? Model number? Alarm codes? If it runs for 5 mins check the obvious, coolant level, oil pressure and sensor,

You should have two wire remote Start/Stop. It may need to be shortened in order to start.
