I am new to the computer world & need some help ? How do i transfer my pictures from my computer to a disc ? Thanks

This is for windows 7:
Click the Burn button.
  1. Open your Pictures library from the Start menu and select your desired photos.
  2. Select the photos and folders you want to copy by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking their icons. Or, to select all the photos within a folder, press Ctrl+A.
  3. Need to select photos from multiple folders? Don't select any photos or folders in this step. Proceed with the rest of the burn process and Windows 7 will open an empty window showing the newly inserted disc's contents: nothing. Drag and drop the photos you want to burn into that window. When you're ready, go back to the Pictures Library and click Burn.

  4. Insert a blank CD or DVD into your writable disc drive.

  5. Decide how you want to use the disc:

    1. Like a USB flash drive:

    2. Choose this option when you intend for other PCs to read the disc. Windows 7 treats the disc much like a folder, letting you copy additional photos to the disc later.
    3. With a CD/DVD player: Choose this option to create discs that play on CD and DVD players attached to TVs. Don't choose this unless you plan to view the disc on a TV. You can't add any images to this disc later, so be sure to get them all selected the first time.

  6. Type a name for your disc and click Next.

  7. Click the Burn or Burn to Disc button again, if necessary.

What type of dvd disc should I use to burn photos onto?

You can use DVD-R or DVD+R discs to burn your photos and data.
Single layer DVD discs holds 4.7 Gb of data. i suggest you place your photo into different subject folders so you can easily retrieve any of your photos by going to the subject folder.

I receive "failure writing to disc" message as I try to burn slideshow to dvd within the program

SlideShow Expressions can develop problems when the photos are too large and when the project your trying to burn is quite large as well. What is too large? I can only speak from own experience. I found that once a project gets into the range of 400 or more photos (total) my writer fails to write. (However, I've burned projects containing up to 388 successfully; photos at original size.) This can be solved by resizing your photos. I have a project with 466 photos (10 chapters) that wouldn't burn to disc. I then resized the photos so that every single one was under 500 KB. It worked: burning is now successful. Resizing doesn't necessarily mean that the quality of your photos will drop. I used Microsoft Office Picture Manager and, really, visually there is no difference between the original photos and the resized photos in the slideshow project. Experiment with photo size. Maybe another size works for you. It is also known that chosing the archive option (having the original photos and music burned to the disc) can upset the burning process - but only really when it's a very large project. Also, you could be using the wrong type of disc. I've been using DVD+R.

Cannot get it onto DVD

Yes, use DVD+R. Make sure that you choose the correct options: After clicking on "Produce" and then "Burn to disc", take a look at the window that appears. One of the choices: you can either burn to hard drive or to the writer drive. Chose your writer drive and continue. Also, SlideShow Expressions can develop problems when a project is too big or when the photos are too large. What typically happens, is that the burning process stops at step 5 (the actual burning) and does'nt want to continue. If this is the case, experiment with photo size. I used Microsoft Office Picture Manager to resize photos. Resizing doesn't necessarily reduce the quality of the photos. There is really no visual difference between my original photos and those that feature in my slideshows. In my case I had to resize to under 500 KB, but then, my project was extremely large: 466 photos; maybe you don't have to go so low. Experiment with sizes. Don't give up; it's a really great product.

You can burn any type of file on a dvd-rw disc. However your cd burner must be dvd-rw not cd-rw. To verify your device open my computer (on most pc's) you will see drive c (your hard drive) and drive d which is your cd rom it should say dvd-rw.
