Random things happening

When I go to turn off the unit the cd player turns on, when I go to turn it off from there, nothing works and the unit is frozen just playing a cd. When I go to change the volume down, it shoots straight up. Some times it randomly turns on. There are probably other things that happen other than this, but this is all I can think of at the moment.

Not because of buttons wearing out over time!

try pushing the reset switch, or disconnect power to the deck overnight.

Phillips cdr 785 trays wont open

Hi....
Are there small round access holes in the underside of the player (usually with a turn symbol near it)?
Most mfgs put "panic holes" under the unit to get out stuck CDs when the thing wont work right
Also,how old is the unit?
Do you use it alot??

I put the ear plugs in and nothing happens.. not

To get the basics out of the way, is the volume turned up and not muted at all... if it's turned up then try another pair of headphones that you know work in something else or test these headphones in something else...( cd player, radio etc.) use a pair that you know work to retest your mp3. plug them in, turn it on and play a song the gently wiggle the end plugged into the player back and forth. If you hear a crackling or snippets of song, then it's probably the jack inside the player....try these things and get back.
PS. post the make and model of your player, it helps with problem identification

Unit turns itself on in standby mode

This can be a very irritating problem. Happened to me too. The only thing to do is after you turn off the unit with the remote, go to the unit and physically turn off the power to the unit with the manual Power on/off switch on the left side of the unit. Nothing else works.
