DVD freezes I bought a set of 6 used DVDs and have watched the first two. They freeze at odd intervals. When I take the discs out and wash them with warm water and mild detergent and dry them with a lint-free towel, they play well for a while and then freeze again, but not in the same place. I don't see any scratches. My wife uses the DVD player frequently and has not run into this problem before.

Many of my burned DVDs tend to freeze while watching! After about 20 minutes into the movie the freezing begins...ONLY ON BURNED DVDs +r or -R !

It is not the system it is the dvds. If they are burned or have been burned that means you have to get new dvds.........

Freezes during playback

Hi. What I am trying to establish from my last question is whether the laser has become heat sensitive or whether there is a bit of dust buildup on the spindle table that might be causing the disc to have excessive wobble.
If the disc has excessive wobble, then the machine will have trouble tracking the outer tracks and will constantly skip as you have described after say 30 to 45 minutes.
If the laser has become heat sensitive then the same problem could potentially occur - The only difference being that if you were to restart the movie at that point, then the skipping would continue even at the beginning of the movie.
The first problem (wobble) is easy to fix - Clean the spindle table, the second problem may render the unit uneconomical to repair.

Philips HTS3565D dvd player, recent Paramount DVDs (Star Trek and Transformers 2) freeze during the Paramount DVD introduction at the exact same spot: as the stars are flying in toward the camera's view....

I have the same problem, though I don't recall which exact movies. They were all from Blockbuster. Sometimes they start to play and then halt at the end of track 1 and sometimes don't even make it tot he menu. The same movie will play on our portable dvd player. A Philips rep told me about 6 weeks ago it was a problem with a new security feature on some movies and to watch the website for a possible firmware upgrade to fix it. Now you can't even talk to someone at Philips so I don't know what to think. The "live chat" folks just want to tell you to take it to a repair shop - not much help there.

Seinfeld DVD episodes won't play

It is probably not your VCR. If it is only the Seinfeld DVD's then the format that the production company wrote on those few episodes are incompatible with your vcr. I know I'm not solving your problem much, but don't go waste money on a brand new Vcr when not needed.

Will not finalize

The DVD could be corrupted. Refinalize it and see what happens. Make sure youre using the electrical outlet and not the battery when your doing it.

Dvd compatibility issues...

You should try updating the firmware in the burner. http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/Specific.aspx?ArticleId=16989 http://wwwbsc.pioneer.co.jp/product-e/ibs/device_e/dev00001r_e.html scroll down a page or 2 and you will see the firmware upgrade for your model. Good Luck, Tim

DVD player freezes

If it's a very cheap unit, it's possibly because the machine can't process the information quickly or efficiently enough, thusly causing the picture to freeze up while the processing catches up with it. Friend has a $30 unit, which happens to constantly.
