Question about Compaq Laptop / Notebook Video-336970-001 (336970001) CD-ROM Drive

CD drive is not reading.

I think that it stopped spinning. The Laptop recognizes it is there and has the correct drivers but it states that the "drive is not ready" for any and all attempts to access it. Can you tell me how to repair this myself or is it a lost cause?

This sounds similar to what happened to my compaq. They sent me a new drive since it was shot after only a couple months. You can download Belarc diagnostic software and send them the results to see what they say - you should find it on their website.

My cd drive does not recognise cds

Okay. First of all is it a cd drive in your computer as opposed to a DVD drive? If you put a dvd into a cd drive it cannot recognize the dvd. A dvd drive can recognize a cd, but a cd drive cannot recognise a dvd.

Does your computer actually recognize the drive as being present?
If the drive isn't recognized by the computer try:

power off the laptop
Physically remove the cd or dvd drive
power -up the laptop without the cd/dvd drive
power off the latop and refit the dvd/cd drive
power it up again and see if the drive is
recognized

If the drive IS recognized by the laptop but won't play any disk it's probably the drive itself at fault. You can try gently cleaning the inside of the drive - the optic that reads the disk. However, the usual cause is failure of that optic which read the disk information. It cannot be repaired.

The alternative to fitting a new drive is to buy a portable dvd drive. They connect via a usb cable. Have a look on Ebay

Devices not found on laptop

no PC state, make HP model, LT or Desktop.
no OS stated windows, what XP>? XP loves to hate CDs
it is INFAMOUS for that... and worse if upgraded the drive.
id bet this,
1: running sticking XP, and XP is a dead product at MS. and HP.
2: someone installed MS disks to it and lost the HP driver.
The HP drivers must be installed, for the cam to work
one USB driver and the correct camera driver to match you unstated OD.
The DVD drive needs this.
XP SP3, service pack 3 adds more drives.
then needs the (if XP ) patch to the registry called filter hack for XP DVD)

why even post lacking full model of HP and OS it runs
click start, click control panel click system.
bingo the OS name and version is there, if 64bit that too matters big time.

My TSSTcorp DVDWBD T3-LB23A optical drive is no longer reading any discs, though it spins and tries when I put a factory movie DVD in it. Same with CDs. The system does boot up the same movie on an

when a drive stops reading ANY disk it's most likely a bad drive.
if the computer see the drive and ask for a disk, the software and disk driver is operating correctly. laptops generates a lot of heat, and more so when pluged in and charging. CDs,DVDs, and disk drives also generates heat. proper ventalation and a cooling pad will help extend the life of a laptop. if you have acess to a spare laptop drive, you can swap them. windows-7 will see the new drive and should install driver.

Content will not load from cd's in my drive

Your cd drive cannot be detected. Check if it is detected in bios. If not two things, 1. its defective 2. loose contact. Your options reseat the cd drive for the first step, if still not detected then replace.

Since it is new, I assume it is covered by a warranty. Then ask the seller where you bought it. They have to replace or check that for free.

Hope this helps.

Acer extensa 5620 notebook dvd-cd rom doesn't read my dvd. i think i uninstalled driver. how can i find dvd writer driver for my notebook?

go to device manager under System Properties. Locate DVD/CD Drives, expand it, select your drive, right click and then left click on properties, select the General tab and check the state of the device IT SHOULD indicate the device is working properly, if so or if not, select the Driver tab unomstall the driver, reboot, see if Windows will reinstall the driver as it should recognize the device as a new drive. If not return to the device manager and reinstall the driver.

HP CD/DVD optical drive is not recognized

I found that there was a firmware conflict caused by the installation of iTUNES. I uninstalled and cleared the upper and lower filters in the registry and the internal DVD-Rom is recognized. First I cleared the registry and the drive was recognized after a hard boot. So Far no twitches. Knock on wood.

My Lite On DVDRW will not recognize any audio cd's...

Hi PhxROcker,

In these drives there are two lasers and two pick-up sensors. Normally in a combined head. One set is used for the DVD and the other is used for the CD. From you description it sounds like the optical sensor for the CD laser has expired! When you place a CD into the drive a small amount of information is read by the drive that identifies the disc type, manufacturer, it's status, capacity etc. If the drive cannot read this then it thinks nothing is present.

If you insert a disc does the LED on the front the the unit flash a few times while it spins the disc. Does it do this repeatedly? If it fails to read the disc does the LED stop blinking and the drive no longer spins the disc? If this is the case then your drive may indeed be faulty.

Sorry I could not be of any further assistance.

Regards,

Spare head 2.
