Samsung HPT4254X/XAA plasma turns off and on by itself, clicking.

My Samsung plasma that unfortunately is already out of warranty just broke. When you turn it on then everything seems perfectly fine but after just a couple of minutes it turns off itself and starts making a clicking sound like (just like when you turn it on / press the power button). Sometimes it doesn't turn on and you have to unplug the power to stop that clicks. Funny thing but after few cycles like that, it works just fine for hours, basically until you don't turn it off manually. Unfortunately, today it doesn't even want to turn on and just clicks and clicks... Does anyone have / had similar problem and what was the damage (meaning $) and basically what was the problem? I heard it could be just old firmware and even tried to update it (when it was still working) but my tv did not recognized it. I have already scheduled a service so I just want to prepare...
Thanks!

    Anyone? ;)

I have the same exact problem occuring exactly the same time. It started with the on off ticks just before it was out of warranty. I ignored it thinking it was just synching with my universal remote. about 6 months of this clicking and now it wont turn on. It just sits there going on and off. I heard online that this TV was manufactured in the Phillipeans and this is a faulty piece. They will not do a recall because they have 2 million units out there. They just fix on a need to basis. I am currently working with Samsung. They seem to get scared and do things your way when you start bringing up these details. I am now in tough with executive care. We will see what happens.

Me too, but I'm not paying for their service call.  How can we get them to fix this since it is obviously not a simple wear and tear issue?

  • Anonymous Feb 17, 2009

I also have a Samsung HP-R4262 Plasma and it has the same problem. The TV keeps clicking but no picture. The problem will come and go every few days.

  • Anonymous Feb 26, 2009

I have the exact same problem. I wake up and turn my TV on, a few minutes later it turns on and off by itself for 5-10 minutes. Sometimes it starts to "click" real bad like it's trying to turn itself on and off very fast.

Seems to only happen when the TV has just been turned on (before and after work). Good thing mine is under warranty until December 2010.

There is a quick fix on this that Samsung is paying for the repairs whether 1 month old or 4 years old. Thought I would send this since there are a lot of posts on this issue.

Called Samsung and they took care of the issue (so far) I have a Model LN-T5271F (52" LCD) purchased 1/12/08. It's well out of warranty, but I guess the capacitor issue I've been reading about is covered under a limited warranty/settlement.

Samsung just lost the lawsuit for the 10V rated capacitors they put on 12V power-board. The capacitors ramp up the current to turn on the TV, and rated too low, eventually fail. It's for certain models.

Go to
http://www.samsung.com/us/capacitorsettlement/

or 888-899-7602

You may be able to get the TV repaired for free.

The clicking is the retry on the power board after it fails. It will continually try to turn on, but the capacitors have trouble supplying the required voltage. To check yourself, remove the back, you'll see bad capacitor tops bowed upward, maybe some black tar leaking also. They'll be labeled 10V on a 12V rated board.

A proposed Settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit involving certain Samsung televisions. In cooperation with the District Court of Oklahoma County, Samsung Electronics America, Inc. is offering a settlement for certain Samsung-branded televisions manufactured prior to December 31, 2008. You may be entitled to receive the benefits of this proposed Class Action Settlement if you purchased, acquired or otherwise owned any of the following Samsung-branded televisions, and the television is experiencing or has experienced the "Covered TV Symptom(s)" as described in the proposed Settlement. The class action lawsuit alleges a defect that may cause the television to experience symptoms such as not turning on, experiencing a delay in turning on, making a clicking sound, cycling on and off, or other similar problems. Samsung denies the allegations in the lawsuit, but has agreed to settle the lawsuit to avoid the costs and uncertainty of continued litigation.

My samsung does the samething. TV is 3 yrs old. Repair guy said, it needs a new computer board. Said, that about 75% can be repaired if you can see what the problems is on the board. But the others show no sign so has to replace the whole board at $175.00 for the board and total cost around $300.00.

My 52" Samsung is less than 2 years old and I'm having the same problem. It started soon after the warrenty ran out. Some day's it works fine, but other times it keeps clicking on and off and won't come on for day's. Samsung told me it was the circut panel. I see now many Samsung owners are having the same problem. I'm going to call again. I think they need to do a re-call,or atleast make the repair for out of warrenty sets.

Plasma is old technology and it is 16 years old and made in Mexico, the worst place for quality control. It is time for a new one, or at least an upgrade. Or you can get a board kit and take a chance on fixing it.

Hpt4254X/XAA Just clicks. Does not come on now. Stopped presenting a picture within last month.

Your TV need a through checkup. Main board, power supply regulator board, back-light inverter board need to be troubleshooted. Contact any service technician, or the authorized service center.

HPT4254X/XAA clicking noises? Cuts itself off and continues to make clicking noises as if it is trying to turn itself on. I've had cheap tv's for 20 years and no problem. I'm not...

The tv power supply board it is the 90-95% the problems and the causes. That the board where the tv power a/c cord plug into it.Those capacitors components parts the tvs corporation put on tvs are under voltages for low heat resistance most of the times and dies very quickly, to dies as times used a lot of tv on like 3 or 4 hours a day within a year or litte bit more.U have all the tools and understanding basic electronic also can do basic soldering work too?Yes?Take the the tv aparts and check the tv power supply board carefully for dying and leakages capacitors components parts. These dying and leaking capacitors parts are alway bulges up or puffing up on to it tops. All these dying and leaking capacitors parts that are bulges up or puffing up on to it tops. All these dying and leakages capacitors components parts must have be replaced like the same Micro Fared and those voltages on the new capacitor parts u are replacing should be in higher voltgaes like 5 or 10 voltages higher than those old capacitors parts u are replacing.Or tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole new refurbish tv power supply board for the replacement.

Samsung Plasma Lines and Colors on Screen

first is it still under warranty through the manufacturer samsung is verry well with wanrranties
It sounds like it is most likely the plasma gas itself and in that case it would cost way more than what you could purchase another one for.
by the time you have a tech come out and fix the plasma gas tube itself yould be looking well over 1000
