Toro briggs OHV runs too fast

I have a Toro 20487 Super Recycler mower with Briggs OHV engine. (similar to Briggs 122602 OHV engine models) Has Walbro LMS carb on it with no mixture adjustments on it. Mower had been sitting and would not start. Took the carb off and cleaned it out. Put it back together and now it starts fine, but it runs too fast and it seems the governor is NOT working. The spring and the governor shaft seem to be connected OK. the governor lever will move back and forth if i move it. The one thing i noticed when i had the carb off, is the throttle shaft seemed loose in its bore. the foam gasket was still at the top, but it had been there awhile. What do i check next? Even if i manually pull the throttle back at the carb, it still seems to run to fast and will not go down to idle. Should the throttle shaft have that much play where it goes into the carb?

SOURCE: No compression release; can't turn over

well if you can pinpoint the leak you may be able to repair it. if you test the compression in the engine you can tell if the rings or valve are bad. you need a specail tool to test compression, $45. let me know what you find

SOURCE: Toro 20016 engine surges up and down - then stalls

You have carburetor problems. Chances are the diaphragm needs to be changed and the carb. needs a good cleaning. If you need tips on carb. cleaning, let me know.

SOURCE: toro recycler will run until primed gas is consumed.

The problem is that the gas that sat in the carb all winter glazed it over and gummed it up. Begin by going to any auto parts store, like an aiutozone, and getting a bottle of carb. cleaner. Seafoam is one I use. Add it to your gas, one ounce per gallon of gas. Also, pick up a can of engine starting spray.

Remove the air filter and spray the engine starting spray into the air intake. Pull start the engine and give it additional squirts of engine starting spray until it runs smoothly.

Toro Recycler self propelled2006 or 2009 mower with B&S engine won't start when hot but if primed with a shot of starter fluid stars and runs fine.

This sounds like classic vapor lock. Heat from the engine is vaporizing the fuel in the carburetor before it gets into the cylinder. Next time it happens, try icing down the carburetor and fuel lines and see if it starts up.

Toro Recycler engine doesn't rev up when control arm is engaged

check the throttle spring in the front of the engine. It is hooked to a loop and when going near a bush it will push in and slow the rpms down.If you locate it pull it out and the RPM"s should increase.

Toro 20450 Recycler Mower with a B&S Model 12V engine...how many ounces of oil does it require

Most all of the smaller Briggs and Stratton mower engines require 20 ounces of oil. Use SAE 30 and I suggest using the Briggs Brand or synthetic. If you use synthetic, you can get away with using a multi-viscosity oil like 10-30W. But if using plain old automotive conventional oil, definitely SAE 30W only.
