I have no illumination on my faceplate either although all of the other buttons are illuminated. I am wondering just how expensive it is to replace the backlight and just how this is done. Thanks for any information.

Same problem...took faceplate apart. The LCD screen doesn't have a seperate light, and would have to be replaced as a unit...so I use the dome light at night.

I too lost my illumination just yesterday with my KDC-9520. It was working fine before shutting off the car then after went to move the car, the lamp flashed then it went out. I haven't taken it apart yet to see how the lighting works but, sounds like from what I have read so far, I am not going to find much. Anyone figure this one out yet ?

I have posted this question on fixya. I have a cheap solution, but it is not perfected yet. Jensen uses LEDs for the button illumination. They use incandescent grain of wheat lamps for LCD illumination. These lamps burn out, the LEDs last nearly forever. I replaced one grain of wheat lamp with one I had which is 6 volts. It is very bright. I need to know what the voltage is that Jensen built in. I suspect it is 12 volts. I have very tiny LEDs that I am going to try out in the LCD illumination.

Will turn on but wont play cds or radio

Sounds like the constant and accessory wires (red and yellow) are wired the wrong way. Test the wire that is connected to the yellow wire with a test light, and if the light doesn't light up with the car turned off you have the wires mixed up.

CD Function

Sounds like controls, but even if you take away power, you mean it still plays and will not eject? This could be inside, if so!

Protected

Wires are exposed. According to the manual, the wiring is grounding out or exposed at some point between the head unit and the speakers.

The CD has quit playing and an ER 4 message

I had it too. - when I bought the used vehicle and was elated that it had a Jensen sound system in it. The sound was good - played a CD the first time I put it in. We listened to the radio after an hour and then attempted to replay the same CD. The ER-4 message showed up. The man who sold me the vehicle had given me the paperwork on the unit and I reset it. I've had to do this at least 4 times which means you have to reset all your favorite stations, time, etc.
