Question about D-Link DI 514 Wireless Router (DI-514)

1 Answer

Confuguration Issue I recently switched from Dial-Up to DSL, and the DSL is working fine. I have my DSL modem connected to my desktop. I recently got a router so that I can browse the Internet with my laptop. I followed the instructions carefully to connect the router up with the modem and the computer. When I open up either the I.E. browser or the Firefox browser and try to go to 192.168.0.1, the same thing keeps happening with a few exceptions. Both browsers say that they are connecting, but I wait and wait and they don't connect. Only a couple of times did they connect, and when that happened and I got the login page, I enter admin for the id and leave the password field blank per the installation instructions. But it doesn't let me in as though I'm entering and invalid id and password. So this boils down to 2 problems: 1-Getting into the login page, and 2-Logging in when I get there I really could use some help.

You seem to be following the correct procedure, so the only thing left to do is re-set the router. My best guess is that the router password was inadvertently changed at some point. Reset to default settings: The following reset procedure will completely restore the default settings on the router including your password. Step 1 Locate the reset pinhole on the back of the unit. Step 2 With the router powered on, press and hold the Reset button. Step 3 Hold the Reset button for about 10 seconds. Step 4 Release the Reset button. Step 5 The device is now at factory defaults. The default username is admin and leave the password blank. You'll need to follow all the steps you performed initially to re-connect to your ISP.

Need help sending fax from laptop, Windows Fax and Scan can't detect modem.

A Dsl modem is not the modem type that you are thinking it is. The old school modems would be inactive and dial out when required. The fax was easily able to use this function. A DSL modem is on all the time and does not use the AT command system and cannot dial out. Therefore the unit cannot fax with it.

Where is the wireless switch on the dell vostro 200

Unlike notebook computers, most desktops don't come with wireless networking built in. I can't find any mention on Dell's site that the Vostro 200 has wireless capability, so this computer doesn't have a wireless switch. To use your desktop computer on a wireless network, you'll need to install a wireless adapter. USB adapters are very easy to use since you just have to plug them in. They're not expensive and you can easily find them at retail stores and online.

The dsl light on my modem isn't lighting up?

The dsl light is physical connection to the internet. If your dsl is a line share with dial tone and it sounds clear with no humm or static, your lines are most likely in good working order. So you may start with the telco tech support or better yet borrow a friends working modem and see if you get dsl at your place. This will tell if a dsl signal is making it to your jack. If it is then your modem is toast. If no dsl with a known good modem the issue is with you isp/telco. Most telcos charge a $60.00 isolation fee if the dsl signal is good to your home/business. So a little work on your part can save some cash.

Modem for dial-up

Well I hate to be the one to break the news but their is no such thing as a fast modem. They are all 56Kbps which is slow....the only fast modem is a DSL modem, but that is outside the computer and it gets hooked up with your phone company or your Internet Service Provider. Check the invoice or packaging slip and see if it says "DSL Modem capability"..if so then you are ok but your ISP has to install it.

Connection Problems

If you are able to send and recieve emails then your dial-up modem is working. For some reason your "Earthlink Browser" is looking for a high speed connection,(like DSL or Road Runner cable). Easiest step to take would be to re-install your Earthlink dial-up software program, but remove existing program under "Control Panel" (Add or Remove Programs).

New computer running slow

if you are using dial up, you shud not have a modem.. modem is just for DSL connection
if you have a modem probably you are using a DSL connection

DEFINITION:
dial up - connection using a phone line with internet connection; cannot use fone while on internet

DSL/modem- connection using a modem plugged in with computer and fone line; able to use fone even when on internet.
