I had the same problem. Nothing wrong with usb you just need a .2 ampere charge. PC USB is not enough. I got an external adaptor and works fine.

I was charging my media player and now it is stuck in charge mode?

Hi,Reset your GoGear with something sharp like the tip of a pen or the end of a paper clip, if you're device isn't working properly or there's a frozen display. Insert the sharp object into the "Reset" hole (located at the bottom of the player), and hold it there until the device turns off. If resetting the device does nothing to restore the display, access the "Philips Device Manager" through your computer to recover the GoGear.

Click "Start" on your computer, then "Programs," "Philips Digital Audio Player," "Aria Device Manager," and then "Philips Device Manager." This will launch the "Philips Device Manager." Make sure the GoGear is turned off completely. Connect your GoGear to your computer while holding down the "Volume Up" button. Continue to hold the "Volume Up" button on your GoGear, until the "Philips Device Manager" recognizes the device and enters recovery mode. Click the "Repair" button when it appears on your computer, then follow the steps to fully recover the GoGear. Properly disconnect your GoGear from your computer and restart the device.

Recharge your device if your GoGear dies suddenly while playing. Connect the GoGear to your computer via the supplied USB cord. Plug one end of the USB cord into a functional, open USB port on your computer. Plug the free, smaller end of the USB cord firmly into the small USB jack on your GoGear and turn your computer on. This will begin the charging process of your GoGear. If recharging doesn't work, the battery may need to be replaced. Check that your GoGear isn't in standby mode. Hold the "Power" button for two seconds to turn it back on.

Good luck.

I juat purchased a pholips go gear vibe mp3 8 gb. is it a rechargable player?

Most media players have a rechargeable battery and it is charged by connecting the media player to USB cable and then plugged into the USB port on a computer.

My philips gogear 8 GB media player won't take a charge or nothing

Make sure the hold/lock is not engaged.
Try a different USB port.

Triple Reset for Philips’ GoGear:

Disconnect the Go Gear from computer. Press the reset pinhole until the player turns off. Hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If this pop-up does not appear, reset the player again WHILE connected to the computer. Open the Philips Device Manager, and go to Repair Tab. Reset the player one more time while connected to computer. Follow the repair instructions.

After repair is complete, upgrade the firmware for this player. Will erase all the songs, but you should be good to go again.

Does Gogear charge via the USB plug or only via the 13 amp plug

You should be able to use the play side but I do not think you will be able to charge it.
The transmitter side is taken from the earphone socket.
The power comes from the mains plug via. the Philips lead and is at 5 volts.
I could be telling you wrong as I do not know what adaptor you are looking to purchase.
