All of a sudden my cat won't touch this food. he is 5 years old, and has been eating it with no problem. He usually bolts it down with no problems, but now the food remains in his dish for days an

I know it's not a health problem, because I took him to the vet. And when I give him treats he eats them as if he is starving.

If he's been eating this food in the past, is it a new bag? Maybe it's not fresh or this bag tastes a bit off? If the Vet didn't have any suggestions, I'd consider returning the bag to the pet store, explaining the situation, and trying another brand. If it isn't a health thing it's a mental thing, so maybe try wet food for a while and then ease him into a different dry food to see if that breaks the mental block that seems to be occurring?

My cat is now on a vet recommended food for a health issue, but before that he was on Blue Buffalo and loved it (too much in fact as he gained some unneeded weight!). I wouldn't recommend anything cheaper than what he's used to, and if you buy from a pet store they can likely make a good recommendation based on what he's currently on.

I need to take my 11 yr old cat to vet and looking for one in las vegas nv that is low cost or will take payments . I am on a very small fixed income.

The Humane Society is usually low cost. You might be right about the depression. Give your kitty extra attention, treats and something you know he loves to eat, maybe raw chicken or beef.
I hope you've found a vet, kitty needs to be looked at. Good luck to you both.

Problems with dogs eating cat food

The following is advice from the ASPCA
Cat food is higher in protein and fat, which may make it very palatable to dogs, but if you continue to feed your dog only cat food, over time you'll begin to see nutritional imbalances. It's also possible to see gastrointestinal issues, such as vomiting and diarrhea, in dogs who continually eat cat food.

How often should I clean my cat's bowl?

You should clean your cat bowl daily and put in the dishwasher every few days (if it's on a dry food diet). If your cat eats canned food then put the bowl in the dishwasher daily.

What's better for my cat dry food or canned food?

You should try preparing a diet for your cat whichresembles the things that cat eat in the wild such as fresh meat and grains. However, most of us don't have the time to do so and there are many canned foodalternatives that contributes your cat nutrition. You can check out this link http://cats.about.com/cs/catfood/a/canned_food.htm and find out more detailed information aboutcanned food substances.

How come when I try to give my friend's cat rice and potatoes he won't eat it?

Cats are obligate carnivores, which means their natural diet is strictly raw meat ONLY. Cats biologically need the complete amino acid chain that is supplied in animal protein. Vegetables have amino acids but are missing certain parts, dogs and humans have the biological ability to synthesize the missing amino acid in vivo but cats can not. So long story short, no vegetables are not good for cats.
