"JVC notes that you are also given a malfunction code when the unit is placed into safeguard. If it displays code 01, 02, or 06 you should remove the battery and powersupply and wait for a while. Code 03 and 04 indicate that you should eject and reinsert the tape.
If neither of these solutions work, your only alternative is to bring it to a shop or send it to JVC for diagnosis or repair. Unfortunately, there is no other way to clear the condition."
If you are getting E03 or E04 errors on every tape you try, it sounds like a servicing is required.
I have had the same problem with a different model JVC. I haven't been able to fix it yet, but there were a bunch of people on a different forum that were able to fix that error code quite simply. With a tape in the machine, flip the lever to eject the tape, then as soon as you hear the motor start to whir, quickly close the door. It didn't help me, but like I said, several people reported that that action fixed the EO3 error.
The most common problem is that the belt for the center pulley comes off. The best fix is to replace the center pully because it is out of tolerance allowing the belt to jump off. Do you have an E03 error code on the screen? This is not a simple repair. The sequence involves a total disassembly, removal of the main board, removal of the mechanism, removal of the mechanism board and cassette-up basket, replacing the center pulley, reinstalling the belt and entire reassembly in reverse order. If you haven't done it before, even as a pro, you're in for a treat...Good luck, magic seadog
