P42W46X We were watching the TV last night and heard a "pop". The screen went really dark. You can barely see the image on the plasma screen now since it is so dark. Any recommendations?

I had the same problem with the same model Zenith television, only this just now happened after powering on the TV.

Also, for a month or two now, the picture is very faint and shadowy just after powering on. After a minute or two, the TV "warms up" enough so that the picture is normal. It was during this warm-up time that I heard the pop and the picture went bad.

This is almost certainly the device that sends electricity to the the plasma in the panel after failing. Bring to your local repair shop and expect to pay 300-400 parts and 100-200 labour.

42 inch LG Plasma TV - Lost picture

Most likely what happened is one of the capacitors went bad. When a capacitors goes bad it produces a popping sound. This could be an easy and cheap fix if you find the bad capacitor or capacitors. The bad capacitor will have a bulging top most likely on the power board but could be anywhere.

42 inch LG Plasma TV - Lost picture

Hi , I recently had the same problem which I was determined to fix . So I did a few weeks of research to find that it was the Y SUS board which burns out. I'm sure you realized that the TV gets hot. Personally I think this is why. circuit boards don't like heat and I've learned that the cooling fans are a joke. I replaced the board and got my picture back. I proved the fan theory because after the screen started to act up. I placed a cooling fan near the vent holes on top and the problem cleared right up,It also helps if you lower the brightness which helps out on the heat situation.I will soon be adding a fan with a temp. sensor. This shoud help if your screen has lines when you initially turn the cool TV on.then I have Some other costless solutions. Hope this helped these are great TV's and like our cars we maintain them not throw them away..................................Mr Wiseman

I heard a pop

You'll need to replace the Y sus & Z sus to complete the repair! The Y sus is what has made the z sus pop! Trust me! Also it is recommended to replace the Y drive or drives. Please feel free to give me a call if you have any questions! I'm more then happy to help you fix your TV!

Plasma Screen not working only sound

It might be one of the power supplies. There are three in this model. One for the sound, one for the video, and one for the computer components. The video power supply is probably shot. They cost about $200 a peice from LG. If there was a "pop" sound when the video stoped, then it might be one of the circuit boards in the back. Yet again, they are three, each costing around $200 from LG.
