The channel "+" and "-" buttons won't work on the remote or the panel on the TV.

Apparently, channels have to be autoprogrammed first before those buttons will work.

Our TV is 4 years old but we never used the channel buttons bc it was always hooked up to DirecTv thru video input. SO when we disconnected the TV to sell, we thought it was a problem.

Sounds like you have a collapsed channel up or down button, Does each button have a good "rebound"?
if any of the buttons are stuck in, just release them

if you use your Sat remote control turn your tv on/off and there is an info button on the remote. press the tv button and then press the info button that should to it.

Lost remote reset chanels
the great thing about sony is you dont need the remote to do menu functions. there is a flip down panel in the front that has the menu, cursers, and select buttons. just select the tab you need in the menu (channels) select the type of input (cable :on/off) then auto program. be sure to have the VCR off so not to program the channel 3 only.

Tv doesn't respond to commands
Check the battery if its still good. if not replace with new one. if its still good, open the remote and inspect for loose connection. resolder if necessary. check also for possible crack pcb. good luck!

Tv has a mind of its own
Just had the TV repaired for the same issue. According to the shop it was a bad channel up/down switch. That impacted the other functions (menu not working, remote malfunction) because they're all intertwined. Only about a $75 fix here in the DC area, so maybe cheaper elsewhere.
