I will get it fixed, but I don't want it to happen again - what could have coused it?
Keep in mind: it was in the middle of the night and nobody was using it when it shut completely off.I will get it fixed, but I don't want it to happen again - what could have coused it?

Hey, i have the same problem. My onkyo gets power but when i replace the fuse it blows immediately after being plugged in. I think it is the transformer.
I have about 60 feet of outdoor speaker wire with one connection about 20 feet into it where the speakers used to be mounted to the outside of the house and then a outdoor volume control knob about 40 into. From the knob out to the speakers.
Could a faulty connection where the red is touching the black cause this problem? I just don't want this to happen again.

If you pulled the cover and only see one fuse, and if it is not blown, then you need to search deeper for the problem. All replaceable fuses on the main board are viewable.
May be a blown fuse inside the unit. Disconnect from power, let stand 20 minutes to make sure the high voltage caps are drained. Open and look for a fuse near where the electrical cord goes in. Remove and test, replace if bad.
Try factory reset: while holding the(CD) button on front panel, press (POWER) button.
After "Clear" is displayed the unit should be back to its factory default. :) If this dont work for you take the unit to be checked by service . :)
The most likely problem is shorted output transistors. This is a straightfoward repair for any shop that works on audio gear. Expect a parts cost in the $40-$50 range.
power down the amp totally to reset processor, then try again. If still no go, may have blown internal fuses- replace and try again
.... or failed thermal fuse in mains transformer. this is a workshop repair as it involves mains voltage that can kill :)
