I beleive instructions are included with the new printhead From Canon's site: You may purchase a print head* for this printer through an Authorized Service Facility ( Find a Service Location) , or by calling 1-800-828-4040 between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 a.m. midnight, EST, Monday through Sunday. When calling, speak the phrase "order parts" when the speech routing system asks the reason for your call. You will immediately be routed to the Parts Desk for assistance. Be sure to have your model number (i9100) or part number (QY6-0039-000) ready for the sales person. * Please be aware that the part is not returnable. That should do it Ed

My Cannon i860 is blinking an amber light five times and then returns to green then blinks amber five times and so on. What is this error telling me?

I too went through all the cleaning processes on my i860 with its amber light blinking five times to one of green. After all that time and effort, I ordered a new head, replaced it, put the old ink carts back in, and presto, worked like a charm. Don't waste time and money doing anything else.

Canon iP 5200 orange light flashing 5 times

Hi
IO have one of these printers as my daily workhorse. Thankfully I haven't had the problem you are having.
Did you remove the print-head from the printer and clean it with running warm water?
When I get a possible print-head problem I always do that, rinse it until the water runs clean. Then dry it on kitchen roll making sure that the contact on the back are completely dry before refitting it to the printer. Generally this has cleared any problems (I have several Canon printers - I'm not just referring to the 5200 now).
However If you still get the error it may be worth contacting your nearest Canon service centre. New print-heads are not exactly cheap but these printers are so good it's worth keeping it going. They will probably be able to diagnose the problem quickly and accurately and tell you if it is cost-effective to repair. I don't know what would be involved with the Eprom error. - probably a circuit board change inside the printer.

Will not print and error message come up.

The print head has failed, or the logic board is faulty. The print head is cheaper. Try replacing that.

Blinng orange light

Answer Part 1 of 2

An error has occurred in the printer. The number of flashes indicates the type of error, as outlined below. Check the cause and take appropriate action.
Two flashes: Out of paper or paper feed error
Reload the paper correctly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.
Three flashes: Paper jam
If paper has jammed in the printer, clear the jam, reload the paper in the printer correctly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.
See Paper Jams
Four flashes: Ink tank is not installed properly
Open the Print Head Cover and check whether an ink tank is installed. If an ink tank is installed, push the button of the ink tank, and reinstall the ink tank properly.
Five flashes: No Print Head installed, or Print Head failure
Install a Print Head.
When the error continues, contact a Canon service representative.
Eight flashes: Waste ink absorber almost full
Ink used for cleaning is absorbed in a waste ink absorber placed in the printer. Eight flashes indicate that the waste ink absorber is nearly full. Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to cancel the error so that you can continue printing.
Important
If this error occurs, replacement of the waste ink absorber and maintenance of the printer are required. Canon recommends to contact a Canon service representative as soon as possible. Once the waste ink absorber becomes completely full, it cannot be printed until the Waste ink tank is exchanged.

Nine flashes: A specified period of time has lapsed without receiving a response from a digital camera or digital video camcorder / The digital camera or digital video camcorder connected is not compatible with this printer

Dear Bill,
Flashing 5 times in orange indicates that print head error occurs so it cannot be detected properly by the printer. To make it sure, install a good print head in the printer. Is the problem fixed?. If the problem still persist, carriage part may be faulty. Overall, the print head is the most faulty part in this case. So, you need to replace the print head with new one.

Print Head install

Hello Dear,
The Print Head in your printer is physically damaged and so even though it is present and installed it will not be detected by the Printer, you need to purchase and install a new print head for your printer.

Canon pixma ip4500 print head problem 5 lights flashing. Reinstalling print head does not solve problem.

Printhead can be washed under running hot tap to flush all the old ink away. I did mine and it didn't affect performance after drying it overnight in a warm area. Re-fitted it and away it went. Don't worry about getting connector board wet at the back.

5 orange flashes indicates a problem with the print head. you could try carefully removing the print head (the thing holding the print cartridges) and replacing it. turning it off/on. make sure the print cartidges are ok. If still no good you might need to get it serviced?

Brand new Printer lights flashing

You should install driver first, then connect printer when prompted, then install inks, as it needs the driver to tell it there are full inks fitted, refer to the manual.
