I hit the power button on my remote last night and heard a loud cracking sound - sounded like a voltage arc. The TV did not turn on, and attempting to turn on via the front power button on the set did not work, either.
Thanks & regards,

After fooling around with all of the buttons, and disconnecting the power to the TV, it occured to me that it may be the Comcast digital cable box. I unplugged the cable box for a few minutes, plugged it back in and the TV works just fine!

Last night i set childlock in my nikai ( NTV34010) tv set and tuned off by remote control. Then after some time later i tried to turn on tv but there is no sound and no picture.
will u please help me to solve it out.
The high pitched sound is probably comming from the power supply, possibly due to its trying to drive voltage into a shorted component in the high voltage deflection circuits. You may be lookng at about a $250 repair. If it has been used a lot and its picture quality didn't knock your socks off, I would replace it with a HDTV set. A 37 inch LCD from Toshiba might be a good place to start and should do nicely for you.
