When plugged into the tv, and through the camcorder, I can view the discs, however, to play the disc in a dvd player, the manual says I have to finalize the disc. I understand that is necessary. Where is the option to finalize? The manual says I have to do it, but I can't find HOW to do it. I know it has to be plugged into the wall through the charger and you have to have the camera completely still. I don't know where the button is on the camera to finalize.
What is initializing a disc?
Can't you just buy a disc and pop it in your camera and record?

Recording tv program or duffing none codes dvd disc, must wait it for finalizing code done completely before can take it out or can be watching it on the same DVD recoder player or a compatible one.Record other disc, just must wait the disc to completely finalizing it final codes, the disc should play with no problems.
im guessing your talking about a new disc here ,
before you can do anything with the disc ,you will either have to
format it or erase it, once you have donr that you can then use the
disc and edit its contents. im assuming you are using the correct type
of disc for your machine, eg dvd+rw or dvd-rw check the manual to make sure your machine can record onto a dvd+rw disc. hope this is of some help to you.
There are three ways of transferring the videos from the Camcorder to the Computer. One is by using the Picture Motion Browser Software, other by using the A/V, USB cable after finalizing the disc in the Camcorder and finally using the DVD-ROM Drive in the Computer after finalizing the disc. If you're trying to transfer using the 2nd and 3rd option, the the disc in the Camcorder should be finalized.
Also make sure that the disc is formatted in DVD-Video mode instead of DVD-VR mode. VR mode recorded discs can only be played back using a VR Compatible Software/Player or in the same Camcorder. DVD-Video mode recording will help you in playing the discs in all the Players and DVD Viewing Software.
I always recommend transferring the videos to the Computer using the supplied PMB Software.

I noticed that too with my "VR" (and NOT "Video") formatted disks. I don't think you can finalize the VR ones. Instead you have to use the Sony Import tool to grab the videos. If you are like me you probably remember using the import tool with Video formatted disks BEFORE finalizing them and it takes forever to copy them. They must be finalized to view on other devices, copy using the import tool quicker, etc., but VR formatted disks seem optimized for importing (and can be edited on the camcorder directly.
Cam must be plugged into the mains adapter/charger to finalize a disc
1 - press the DISC NAVIGATION button 2 - press the MENU button 3 - use the froward/backwards/play-pause buttons to choose 'Finalize Disc' on the disc menu screen
Most DVD players can't play DVD-R or DVD-RW unless it's finalized (if you record to DVD+RW, it may work ok, but fewer DVD players work right with RW format discs).
Obviously, you need to ensure you are actually writing to the DVD (eg, will they play back on the camcorder). You should see if there's a menu for finalizing the DVDs, that might do it. There are occasionally problems with finalizing discs on some of these DVD camcorders... these discs may not be readable on any DVD player, but might still work in a PC.
The other problem is that some camcoders record in DVD-VR format, which is a special "easily edited" format for DVD camcorders only... regular DVD players don't usually support this (well, some new ones might... this is one of those "evolving standard" issues). You'll probably need a PC to read the disc, edit, convert to a conventional DVD, etc. if you're using this format.
I do have the same problem. It all started when I started using Sony discs that has a label to write on one surface. Don't know how to fix it. It is now almost useless!

There's no way you can continue the finalization of the disc, the disc has been marked as finalized already, even a single power fluctuation when you are using ac power adaptor can affect the disc finalizing process, so it is better to use battery when disc finalizing
Put it back in the Camera and see if it tells you the disc is finalized when it tries to format the disc. If it does then you know for sure it is finalized..
I am trying to FINALIZE the mini disk, but camcorder DISC NOT FOUND!
