thanks a lot. i understand what you are saying. can i add to this and also ask if there is a way i can adjust the print head? the numbers and letters are hard to make out. (this is besides the ink not making contact).

A few possibilities here: One, is your ribbon cartridge dried out (essentially out of ink)? Dot Matrix printers aren't near as common now, and if your cartridge has been in the retailer's stock for years, then it could indeed be dried out. Another, the ribbon isn't being advanced, or spooled. The ribbon is spooled as the head carriage moves back and forth. If it isn't being spooled, the ink in the spot over the printhead will be quickly depleted. A no-spooling condition is usually caused by a problem in the cartridge itself. Also, make sure the cartridge is properly seated in the holder. If it isn't, the drive spindle isn't fitting up into the cartridge properly, and might not actually drive the mechanism inside the cartridge. Lastly, if your cartridge is dry, they can be reinked if you can find someone with the reinker to do it. I once did ribbon reinking with a Macinker as a side business, and someone in your area might have one of those rigs. Otherwise, just buy a new cartridge, and hopefully it will be reasonably fresh, with good ink.

All of dodgechargers items are valid, however, there this a setting on your printer called the printhead gap adjustment setting. This is to compensate for the thickness of multipart forms. You should have it set to 1. On most Oki printers this is a blue lever just to the left of the print cartridge. I could read 1,3,5 or 1,2,3,4,5. If there is not a blue lever there, look on the right or left of the platen (paper roller) for settings similar to this. It adjusts the distance from the printhead to paper. If you're using a single part form, and have it set too high, the distance from the printhead to paper will be to great and you will not get an adequate striking force. Between dodgecharge and me I guarantee we have your problem solved. Ed

Brother DCP-350C magenta ink won't clean and print quality check shows multiple visible gaps

You have a blockage in the print head and/or feed line from the ink cartridge to the print head. One possible fix would be to make a pad of paper kitchen towel wet it and sit the print head on it overnight. With luck the pad will soak the blockage and draw ink through the head. Give the machine two self cleans and try a print quality test to see if you have made ANY improvement. If no improvement - forget it as the blockage has been there too long.

Can print the color I want. Only prints red.

A technique to improve print quality is to try and clean the cartridge nozzles. You may clean the cartridge by following the steps given below:
1. Go to the "Lexmark solution center." This can be done by clicking on "Start," go to "Programs" and Lexmark printer group. Click on the "Lexmark Solution center." Next click on the "Maintenance" Tab.
2. Select "Clean and Fix Horizontal streaks." Click on "Print". This will produce a printed page.
The colors that you should see here are black, yellow, magenta (a reddish purple) and cyan (a dark sky blue). You should notice the diagonal lines above and below the solid horizontal lines. These diagonal lines should be solid from left to right with no gaps.
If there are gaps in the lines or the print diminishes across the page, you should run the "Clean Print Nozzle" page a couple more times to try and clear it up. If you still have gaps at the top and bottom, you should "wick" the cartridges by following the steps given below:
1. Please open the "Solution center" again and go to the "Maintenance" Tab.
2. Select "Install color/black cartridge" and remove the cartridge or cartridges from the printer.
3. Get a damp paper towel.
4. Set the ink cartridge right side up on the damp paper towel so that the ink nozzles are against the towel and hold the cartridge in this position for about 15 seconds.
5. Now wipe the print head (on the bottom where the ink comes out) across in one direction only (left to right) until it looks clean.
6. Next dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure that the ink is flowing.
7. Snap the cartridges back into the printer.
8. On your computer, select "Old Cartridge install."
9. Repeat the "Clean Nozzle Page" one more time. If this fails to address the problem the entire procedure may need repeating.

Remove ink cartridge

I found that the proper way to do it only worked when the ink light was flashing red. Then when I pressed the stop button it moved across and stopped beneath the marker to show which cartridge needed changing. The I pressed the stop button again and it moved to a place where I could change it.
This happened despite the fact that the pictures I was printing blatently showed that I needed to replace my ink, it wasn't until I had printed the liney pictures a few times that the printer decided the ink level was low enough to turn the flashing light on and let me change it.

Ink system failure Oxc19a0031 I have an HP842C. The ink cartridges appear to be full, and in fact I have changed them for new ones, but I barely get a print, It is sometimes enough to make out (barely)...

Clean the cartridges.

Go to Printers/Faxes from your START Menu
Select the printer
Select Set Printer Properties
Select the Services Tab
Clean them - I had to do it 5 times and take out the black cartridge and shake it really good until ink started coming out and clean it again. I primed 3 times.

Worked for me.
