Setup i need info on how to set up the fax machine. it was given to me but there are no instrucions on how to work it or set it up. i know how to operate a fax machine the problem is getting it to work.

There are two ways to use a fax machine in your home or office. You can either have a standalone fax machine, or you can use your computer for this purpose. Either way, setup is very simple. You don't even have to be a tech guru to do it. First, decide if you'd like to have a separate phone line for your faxes so they don't interrupt communications at the office. If so, have the phone company install the line before you get started with fax setup.
Setting Up a Traditional Machine

Step 1.Set your fax machine on a flat and even surface. Plug the power cord into the wall. Fill the paper tray and slide it into the front of the machine.

Step 2.Plug one end of a standard phone cable into the phone jack and the opposite end into the port on the fax machine. It's usually on the back or the side.

Step 3.Turn on the machine and pick up its telephone. If you don't hear a dial tone, check your phone cable to make sure it's secure. Then turn to the LCD screen and start programming your options. Since all machines are different, see the instructions in the owner's manual.

Press the Menu/set key, then down arrow untill initial setup, then press, menu/set, then down arrow to station ID, then menu/set. From here you can change the info you need to change.

Call that fax number from a regular phone and listen for fax tones. They may have given you the wrong number.

Please perform the steps given below and check if yuo are able to fax

1. Open a MS Word Document.
2. Click File -> Send to -> Recipient using a fax modem.
3. Follow the instructions given in the fax wizard. Ensure that you select the HP all-in-one as the fax program.
Now check whether you are able to send the fax.

You can go under (menu) and then (Initial Setup) and using up or down tabs move till you see Machine ID. Press (menu) or (ok) button and change phone, fax number, and name. Press(ok) button after each is set to your specification. Hope this helped!

Is your phone line plugged into the proper receptical on the fax? It should be plugged into the LINE slot, not the PHONE slot. The PHONE SLOT IS TO CONNECT A TELEPHONE TO THE FAX. IT IS NOT FOR THE INCOMING PHONE LINE. If your phone connection is correct, try calling your fax machine from a cell phone while you are at the fax machine. Listen on the cell to see if the fax machine picks up the line. If it does not, go into your fax machine's settings, either INITIAL SETUP FAX SETUP, or PHONE SETTINGS. You may have to try several settings to find one that works, depending on your fax machine. Try going to RECEIVE SETUP on your fax machines setup menu. Scroll through the settings, writing each down on paper. Try RING DELAY, RING TIME, NUMBER OF RINGS TO ANSWER , or any other settings relating to how your fax answers the phone line. Try changing each setting, one at a time, and try calling your fax to see if it answers. There may also be settings on your fax to set it up if an answering machine or telephone is on the same line.

First this is a good machine, I use the same one and have my fax setup for the same thing. If you have a (TAD) Telephone Answering Device first you have to set up your phone to pick up before the fax, do this by setting the phone to pick up on three rings and the fax to pick up on four. Go to Menu/Fax/Setup Receive/Ring Delay. While there make sure Easy Receive is on. The machine itself will distinguish between regular calls and facsimiles and will display this info at the time of the call on its LCD screen, make sure you are using the line connection and not the phone connection. First it would seem as though the default setting may have all been changed. The NO SERVICE message is given because the machine menu setup is not able to comply with present hardware configuration. Such as the menu setup calling for the incoming fax to be forwarded to an email only you have not connected the machine to an internet router.

The most likely thing to do that will fix the fax not being automatically answered is this.

Check this menu setting. Press the <RESOLUTION RECEPTION MODE> Button (with no document in feeder) until AUTO appears in the display to set auto recieve faxes.

This will auto answer a fax after the set number of rings (different menue option). As someone may have changed this it can be from 2 to 5 rings. Note there is also a pseudo ring tone which can also be set although this will only ring on the machine itself.

This is in case the machine auto answers then finds the incming call is not a fax and so need to altert you to take the call.

Now this is a very complex machine so CAUTION when using in a doctors surgury. It is capable of BROADCASTING all the faxes to any other fax machine or email adresses either by design or the office 'meddler'.

You should set the SECURITY password option and keep a copy of this safe to avoid unauthorised access or changes which could then forward your faxes to unknown destinations.

You need to take a week off to read the manual as it is not easy to plough through.

Here is a link to the MANUAL also what is laughing called a 'setup guide'. My advice is to first disconnect the phone line, then go through each menu setting the DEFAULT value. Then try it, then change the setting to suit you. This is no ordinary fax machine.

you need to set it up your machine to work in telfax mode, this is done in the menu, i don't remember which number it is but it is in the fax settings one i think, you will find receive mode, there you change it over, if it is not in the fax settings you will find it in the inital setup or general setup options
