2006 Chevy Aveo won't start in cold weather

Hello!
My car will not start when the temperature reaches below about 10 below.
I replaced my battery with a cold crank battery, and the battery does crank just fine.
When the temperatuer warms up, the car starts right up. However, the engine light stays on until I start the car again the next day.
I live in Minnesota and this is a real problem in the morning when I need to leave for work. I live close enough to walk to work, but in 25 below with our wind here it's a bit much!

Johnny 5846: I don't know if my car has been scanned for the temp sensor. We have a mechanic's garage at my work and they checked out my car and recommended the battery, but I have no idea how they checked or what kind of equipment they have. I moved here from TN and I have no idea who to go to for car repair, but perhaps I should check into it further! Or, perhaps my car wants me to head south again : )

sound like you have a temp sensor issue , have you had the car scanned to see what code(s) you may have ?

Can I put it in while the car is cold be cause that my issue my car has been sitting for 2 days and won't start. I didn't have this issue during the summer. Will the dipstick help in my case

Go to an auto parts store and get an electcic dipstick heater . remove your oil dipstick after parking car for the night.install electric dipstick preferrably while engine is still hot plug it in at night .this will
help keep the oil warm and also the block after car starts unplug heater remove it and install original dipstick. this is the easiest to install but there are also block heaters

The ECT sensor tells the engine control module (ECM) the temperature of the engine coolant, which is used to adjust the air/fuel mixture for starting. If the ECT sensor is faulty, it may be sending incorrect temperature readings to the ECM, causing the engine to not start in cold weather.

Another possibility could be a weak fuel pump check valve. When the fuel pump check valve fails, it can cause the fuel pressure to drop when the engine is turned off, which can cause hard starting in cold weather .

It's also possible that the battery is weak and not providing enough power to start the engine in cold weather. Cold temperatures can reduce the battery's cranking power, which can make it difficult to start the engine.

I would recommend taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic to diagnose the issue.

2006 Lincoln Zephyr does not start when it gets cold out30 degrees F)

Where you at Kim,north pole,helping Santa,lol,How many cold cranking amps is your battery,may need a stronger one,Try this to see,remove battery overnight,store in your warm house,then in morning install back in car and see if it will start,if it does then battery is too weak for your Lincoln.Also metal shrinks in cold weather.

Engine turns but won't start when temperature id around freezing or below.

Possible bad cold start valve or the sensor that tells the valve to activate when cold. Start by replacing the cold start valve first.

My car wont start in the cold

Hello,

There may be water mixed with your fuel. water + cold = frozen fuel. Get some HEET from a local gas station to remove water from your fuel during the cold months.

If your car is Diesel it maybe that the Glow Plugs are not working.

The majority of the time this is due to the "Cold Cranking Amps" in your battery. Most batteries are only good until it gets down to a certain temperature. After the temperature reaches or goes below the minimum temperature, the car isn't going to start. Generally speaking, the battery will tell you on it's sticker or label how many "Cold Cranking Amps" your battery has (aka CCA Rating), and what temperature is the minimum temperature the car will be able to start at. Most of the time, it's limited to 0*F.

1998 S-10 cold start

The cold weather wreaks havoc on everything. I am thinking that the cold weather and your octane rating are not getting along, hence no error codes. Have you tried fuel drier and or octane booster?Since the truck starts when the temperature gets warmer, I would look at octane as the culprit. Try some octane booster and see if that helps. Let me know. Hope this helps.

The solution is to move to a warmer climate. But until u do that, here are some suggestions. Extreme cold is very tough on a car, and all systems must be operating well in order for a car to start in the weather u are experiencing. Since the engine light has gone on, have any trouble codes read that are stored on the cars computer. Most parts stores will do this as a free service. They will plug a scan tool into the cars computer port under the dash and check for the codes. Write them down and ask what they mean, and how to fix any problems. U can post the codes and any questions here for help. Make sure u are using the proper engine oil weight as recommended in your owners manual, oil that is too heavy makes it difficult for the engine to turn over in the cold. You can also check out engine oil heaters, which is just a dipstick u put in the oil dipstick tube, plug it in and it keeps the oil warm, which will be a BIG help on the cold mornings. Good luck, and spring is less than 3 months away!
