Cleaning Internals My set is about 2.5 years old and I've begun seeing irregular blue dots on my screen. The number is increasing over time. I believe it may be dust accumulation on the mirror or display. How difficult is it to clean the inside components of this set?

Hello!
After our set had blue AND pink dots forming on the screen andside and bottom of the pic. I contacted SONY. They replaced the optical box and it is gone now.My set was purchased in 3 /05. They may terminate this warranty so you'd better call them VERY soon! Good luck!

The problem with replacing the optic block, is that now you can buy a brand new TV cheaper than the cost of the block and labor. I was quoted around $1100.00, parts and labor. I bought a brand new 50" Samsung plasma TV for $1400.00. I will never buy Sony again.

Problem with blue dots on screen plus blue haze in lower left hand corner. Replaced lamp approximate 1month ago with Phillips lamp Assy. Blue dots started to appear about 1 week ago and are increasing in...

The optical block is most likely causing the problem. It will continue to get worse. Sony may help with the repair since they have had a lot of problems over the years with their optical blocks across many models. On the older sets they usually only help with the parts cost. The average repair cost for a optical block replacement is $1200.00 to $1500.00. So if they help with the parts cost it really brings the cost down. Their customer service number is 1800-222-SONY.
I hope this helps,

My sony television is developing an increasing number of blue dots across the screen. It is a Sony LCD model # KDF-42WE665 I have already reaplaced a bulb to the tune of $350.00 about 2 years ago and now...

This blue dots problem is due to defective blue lcd and related uv filters/ polarizers in optic block (light engine) and optic block will be replace to fis that issue.
It would be costly fix and an experienced tech is needed to do the job. You can expect $1000 repair cost.
Thanks.

Little blue dots on screen and large blue haze in upper left corn

Sounds like the light engine is going bad...that's why they stopped making these rear projection sets using LCD's. Costs almost as much as a new set! But get a second opinion before trashing it.
