Sound could be relay on the compressor buzzing pull back cover you'll see compressor and condenser fan when fan is running compressor should be running you can fell it vibrate when running if its not try replacing over load protector and relay. If that doesn't fix it compressor is probably bad and cost too much to replace
If the freezer is not freezing. I am guessing that the refrigerator is not cold also. Here is link to an Amana Refrigerator Not Freezing. You will need to narrow down parts that are working and are not working. I would first pull the refrigerator out to make sure that the compressor and the condenser fan are running(the condencer fan motor runs to cool the compressor down). This is a link to a GE refrigerator condenser fan motor problem. The compressor and condenser fan motor are in the same place. This can give an idea at least where it is at. Make sure that the evaporator fan motor in the freezer is running also. Make sure that the rear freezer wall is not iced over. This can be a defrost problem. See what a defrost problem is HERE. If your unit is sitting there with the lights on but you hear no noise from any fan motor or your compressor. Your unit may be in a defrost mode. Locate your defrost timer. It looks as tho it is either located in the front behind the kick plate or in the back by the compressor. Check to see if the fan mount bent somehow. The fan blade just might be jammed. If not see if the fan is getting power. The unit will not cool properly if the compressor and condenser are not being cooled down by that fan.
Many times a freezer and/or refrigeratordo not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many otherthings that can go wrong.
If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing thencheck out the last two tips.
If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...
Check out these tips that I wrote about that... it is a great place to starttrouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then callinga repair person to do a simple thing for you...
This is unusual. The more common set of circumstances is that the freezer works but the refrigerator doesn't. The cold air in a side-by-side is produced on the freezer side and is than transferred throughout the freezer and to the refrigerator by a fan in the freezer.
You say you hear something running in the refrigerator. This could be the freezer fan. It is located behind an access panel in the freezer. This fan should run.
You should also hear the compressor (underneath the refrigerator) running. If this doesn't run, you will not get cooling. Also, there should be a compressor fan (underneath the refrigerator close to the compressor) running. This fan removes heat from the refrigerant coils and transfers the heat to the outside. If this fan doesn't run, proper cooling cannot be obtained.
Check and make sure fan in frezer section works properly.you should be able to hear fan slowing down when you open freezer, or find door switch and press and hold..hope it helps you..

Sounds like the evap fan is not running. The fan takes cold air from the freezer to cool the refer compartment. If the freezer is cold the compressor is running. Generally the freezer will stay cold since the cooling coils are there but it must have the fan working to get the air up to the refer area. Pull everything out the freezer and take the back panel off to view the coils and fan, etc. It's a simple easy job to change the fan. If you find the coils are a total block of ice then it's another problem... the defrost cycle isn't working. Sooo... see if the fan is running in the freezer compartment first.

for fan location, item 18 is the fan motor. Let us know what you find out.
