Question about Goldstar R1003 Air Conditioner

1 Answer

Air conditioner I purchased a Goldstar r1003 window air conditioner a couple years back...almost from day one it would be fine for a couple hours,...then you would hear chunks of ice being thrown around inside. I read where dirty coils or lack of freon could cause this, but its happened since it was close to new. Any thoughts?

If the air flow is restricted or partially blocked (dirty cooling fins, filter etc), ice will form inside becaue the air stays in ithe cooling coil or fils for a long period of time. Lack of freon will not cause Ice formation because there is not enough cooling power.

Why does my unit leak water

It's normal for water to form when the air conditioner is operating. Some have a drain so they will drain outside while running.

My A/C is extremely noisy! When I press hard on the front grill I can get it to quiet down. Remove my hand and noisy again. The owner's manual identifies it as Goldstar model BG8000ER, R1003

mcdevito75 here, That"s a vibration from the fan, compressor, try to re-seat that front grill, it may have worked loose, or hold it tight with tape. (Duck tape) just around the edges.

No, you don't put water into air conditioners. They make their own water and it is an inconvenient by-product that needs to be disposed of in some way. The A/C will use the outside fan blade to fling the water on the hot coil, let it drain out, or both.
