KDC-MP919 No display

My kenwood deck isn't working. Well everything else works, except for the display on its regular position. When I press the eject button so that the motorized faceplate is horizontal, the display seems to work. When its back in its regular vertical position, theres nothing on the screen. Everything else works okay, its just the display. Anyone have any answers for this?

Can you please tell me the model # for the ribbon cable I need? I can't seem to find one. I have called Kenwood and they are useless, they just want me to buy a whole new unit. My CD player works fine, I just have no display. Please help

I'm suffering similar circumstances and am glad this forum exists. My KDC-MP919 display is not working, yet music continues to play. It's blue lights turn on while flipping, but turn off as soon as the unit is in place. The music plays and I can get it to switch from CD to Radio but that's about it. No volume control, no skip, no off, nothing. If you think it's my Ribbon cable as well, please provide the part number???

well if that the solution, i have an excelon that doesnt not have a motorized faceplate, and i have the same problem, i can get it to switch between cd, radio, usb, and standby, and the blue lights behind the volume and control knobs both work always, but the display never ever works, just the display though, everything else works fine...

I HAD pretty much the same problem until my unit decided to stop working all together.

This really angers me because just the replacement FACEPLATE ALONE is 199. Of course the warranty has run out and I'm stuck with a stereo that MIGHT open up fully, then to the halfway point, and then nothing decides to work. The lights dont turn on anymore either.

Just as a warning, I had about a month from the first problem until the unit stopped working all together.

I just had the same problem. The screen stopped working about a month ago. Then tonight the entire faceplate stopped working. It will flip around when i turn on my car, but wont play an no lights light up now. I took apart my faceplate to see if anything was obviously fried, and saw in the bottom left corner of the screen it appears to have a black spot, looks like something blew.

Can anyone else take apart their faceplate and see if it is like that on all of them? Before I go spending the money on a ribbon cable that I may not need, I'd like to know.

You probably have a break in the flexible ribbon cable that goes between the flip face and the mother board. Try for a replacement cable.

Need to get the security code for Kenwood KDC-608OR

ok I just found this info online and they say it came from the service manual for that stereo so I hope it helps:

You will need a Kenwood RC-410 remote control. This remote works on KDC-519, KDC-X859, KDC-319, KDC-4019, KDC-MP919, KDC-X759, KDC-419, KDC-X459, KDC-MPV619, KDC-MPV7019, KDC-2022, KDC-2022V, KRC-435, KRC-535 and KDC-X959

To reset the code do the following:

1) Turn on the car.
2) The faceplate rotates out and the CODE - - - - prompt appears.
3) Press >>' and Auto keys simultaneously on the faceplate and hold for 4 seconds. (If the faceplate rotates back into the console push on the upper left top edge of the faceplate and it will flip back around. Press the Eject button and then try it again.)
4) The screen will still say CODE, but the - - - - will disappear! When this happens press the 5 key on the remote twice and it enters a K on the display on the faceplate. Hit the >>' key on the faceplate.
5) Press the 2 key on the remote three times and it enters a C on the display on the faceplate. Hit the >>' key on the faceplate.
6) Press the 2 key on the remote once and it enters an A on the display on the faceplate. Hit the >>' key on the faceplate.
7) Press the 7 key on the remote twice and it enters an R on the display on the faceplate. Hit the >>' key on the faceplate.
8) The radio goes into All Off mode and you are set! Hit the SRC button on the faceplate to select CD, Radio, etc.

Display screen not working

Sounds like you might have a bad connection where the faceplate connects to the unit, or the faceplate is bad.

NEED INPUT this is the website to look at the manual for this deck

The deck gets power but wont function. When its on, the faceplate rolls over & then it freezes.

there is a flexible cable that goes from the face to the main motherboard. the cable is most likely bad and needs to be replaced.

Kenwood KDC-MP428 - the display is out but works otherwise

there are several surface mount resistors on the right side inside of the deck that need to be resoldered.

KDC-MP919 No display

With the amount of use in four years I will say you definatly got your moneies worth from it.  From the way it sounds, there is a small paper thin ribbon cable that connects from the main body of the radio to the head unit itself.  With the amount of times this thing has been used the ribbon cable sounds like it has finally gone bad.  The best way for me to have you demonstrate this is to take a piece of paper and with a razor cut a **** in the middle of it and then folt the paper in the same direction as the ****.  When the cable is flat the wires in the cable make connection and when the cable is bent there is no connection to certain areas of the cable.

Kenwood KDC-MPV619. No remote. Need unlock code for deck.

I had the same problem with my kdc-mpv619. I had bought a new truck that didn't have a remote and the screen says enter code. You do need a remote to fix it, but what they don't tell you is a universal remote will work. I used my direct tv remote and looked up all the codes for kenwood.

The one that worked for me was 30337 (not sure if that would work for you).

1) The way I tested it was go to my stereo and I held down the display button + volume up button. (This should remove the - - - - sign but it will still say CODE).

2) Then you press the 5 button on the remote and if the screen says CODEK then you know the remote works.

(to switch from K to C to A to R press the (>>) button on the screen.

3) Enter the code KCAR (the display will say CODEKCAR)

4) Final Step is hold do the fast forward button (>>) on the screen.

It should work for you after that ;-)
