Below is a link to the list of the only scanners that VISIONEER has written a Vista driver for(and not likly to write any more for former scaners.) Your model in not on that list. Unless, for some reason , they decide to write a Vista driver, you will never bve ableo to use that scanner with the Vista OS. No one else will ever write one either.
Please don't rate me badly for telling the whole truth even thought you may not like it.

As Microsoft continues to release new versions of it's Windows Operating System, the requirements for peripherals and software change. Visioneer scanners are designed to leverage the tools and features included with the operating systems that are current when products are released. When feasible, we develop scanner drivers for new versions of Windows. On the day Windows XP was released, Visioneer had more scanners qualified to wear the Designed for Windows XP logo than any other scanner maker. In spite of our best efforts, major changes in the underlying architecture of Windows XP make it impossible to write new drivers for many of our older model scanners.
Visioneer posts the last release of drivers on each Product's Homepage and provides online support for older products. Scanners designed to work with older versions of Windows may not function properly after upgrading your computer's operating system.
We offer an industry leading upgrade program, giving a 25% discount from our online scanner store for customers that return their old unit to ensure proper disposal as part of our environmental recycling program. For details visit Visioneer's Trade Up Offer.

Here is what worked for me. I have 32 bit Windows Vista. I do not think that this will work on a 64 bit Vista, as I don't think that a 32 bit driver will work on the 64 bit Vista.
Go to this URL:
http://support.visioneer.com/products/4400/downloads.asp
And download the 4400.303110.exe file to your computer.
Next: Click on "Start Search", and paste in
"mshta.exe res://acprgwiz.dll/compatmode.hta" without the quotes.
This will start the "Program Compatibility Wizard"
NOTE: The "Start Search" will appear when you click on the round Windows button at the lower left hand side of your Windows Vista desktop. It's right under "All Programs". Just paste that command in that box.
Then, just follow through.
When prompted for the program to run, select
"I want to locate the program manually" and point to the driver setup file you want to execute, which will be the file that you just downloaded.
Under the page that says to "Select a compatibility mode for the program"
Choose: 'Microsoft Windows XP (Service Pack 2)'
You don't have to select anything on the "Select display settings for the program" page.
On the next page, select "Run this program as an administrator".
You should be all set to go. I did see one complaint about a missing dll file, but it worked anyway.
Many thanks go the the people who really contributed to this fix:
They posted a lot of good information on this Microsoft forum:
