Question about LG DLE2512W Electric Dryer

The Drum on my LG DLE2512W Dryer will not turn

The Drum on my 1.6 year old LG, DLE2512W Dryer will not turn. When I press the power button, power comes on, When I press the start button you can hear the motor start to hum (like its got power) but the drum will not turn. I took the top off and the belt is fine (from what I can see). Standing in front of the dryer, when I press the start button and the motor starts to hum, if I push the drum to the right (start rotation) the drum start turning and the dryer works perfect. Im guessing there is a problem with the starter windings in the motor or maybe the control board. I could really use some help.

DLE2512W Dryer will not turn. When I press the power button, power comes on, When I press the start button you can hear the motor start to hum (like it has some power) but the drum will not turn. if I push the drum to the right with the door switch pressed, the drum start turning and the dryer works perfect.

wtmc632sus/02 dryer motor hums when start button pushed. Spinning drum by hand starts motor. Is there a start capacitor in circuit?

No problem with motor or control board. fault is with the motor capacitor only. this is often attached to the motor or near it. the value of the capacitor will be printed on it (usually about 8uf) and you should be able to source from an electrical spares shop

I'd say yes, especially if you replace it yourself to avoid a service call. Top needs to come off (screws at back, then push top back 2 inches and lift off), remove front, remove 4 screws holding front bulk head / front rollers, slip belt off tension pulley, remove drum, reverse to install.

LG DLE2512W dryer approx 3 years old error message to "check filter". Dryer has stopped working. What is the problem? Do you have a schematic of the dryer I can download?

I just had this problem with my 5 year old today. I unplugged it (after checking the line and the regular filter to make sure that they were clear). since there didn't appear to be a real problem. It works fine now. It wasn't having any problems before the light started flashing and it doesn't appear to be having any now. Hope this helps

Drum is loose front to back and makes noise when drying. This is a new noise. Dryer is 3 years old, moderate use.

there is a thimble on the back of the dryer it acts as the bearing it is made out of some kind of fire retardant material see if it is bad .my dryer hit the front face of the dryer and the guide has worn forward there is also a felt pad around half of the bottom on the front of the drum it is pretty tricky to get apart but you can replace every part on the front just way out the cost

LG DLE2512W Dryer says chech filter, starts, heats and turns but makes loud noise. Maybe something stuck? A sock?

Drying drum is not on its host. Lay down the dryer and then bolt it after aligning it.

Cracked drum on the DLE3777W model

The drum is a part number 3045EL1002F which will set you back at least $135. Still well worth the repair, especially if you can install it yourself. You have to remove the top by removing 3 screws in back and sliding top back about 2 inches and lifting off. Then, remove front panel. Remove 4 screws holding the front bulkhead. Remove belt from drum. Remove drum. First time might take a hour, second one you do will take about 15 minutes.
Now, don't rate me down because you don't like having to repair your dryer. I didn't manufacture it. I'm just giving you a bunch of free advise.

Bumping noise

Just had the same provlem and the drum is in the back of my truck. Open the door and manually turn the drum slowly until you hear the thump. Look at the seam that runs along the baffle and pay attention the seam near the raer and see if it separates when you hear the noise. A common problem is the weld breaks and you will need to replace the drum or take it out to have re-welded unless it is still under the year warrant which I am guessing it is not. Don't even try to call LG because they will not help in any fahion.

No, there has not been any recall.
It is not a real common problem. I only see 1 or 2 a year, which is not many. (LE errors on washers are much more common, for example) The part number of the drum for a DLE2512W dryer is 3045EL1002D and lists for just over $100. You can find a service center to order the part from (in the US) at http://us.lgservice.com/index_b2c.jsp
I would rate the repair at about a 5 or 6 out of 10 on a scale of 1-10 in difficulty. (Basically, remove top, remove front control panel, remove front panel, remove front drum support, remove belt, drum comes out the front, reassemble.)
