The tv screen suddenly went blank and the power light started flashing....tv was unplugged for a couple of minutes and plugged back in...same results, no picture...just a red flashing power light. There were no power surges of any kind during this time or any other time to my knowledge.

Unplug it for a couple minutes and then plug it back in to see if it will start up again, if not look in your instruction manual. If nothing about it, contact the company of your machine
have you tried a power reset, unplug all components from the TV unplug it from the wall, then push and hold the power button for about 30 seconds, then plug all components back in, plug it into to wall then turn it on again.
The tv power supply board it is shorted and dead. That the board where the tv power a/c cord plug into it.Tries websites like Shojimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole new refurbish tv power supply board for the replacement.
There is something confusing the system control of your TV and it should me resetted. To reset it, just switch OFF your TV with its front panel power control switch, and after that, unplug the TV from the wall socket. Wait for about 5 minutes or so, and the plug it and switch It ON. If this does not work for the first time, give some more time to reset, say about an hour or so, and try. OK.
you can try to shut the tv off ,unplug the power to tv and anything that is powering the tv[pvr] .now plug in the power to the box first wait,30 seconds or so ,now plug in the tv wait, now turn the t.v. on,WAIT unless it starts smoking just wait.see what happens.
Would be great to know the Make and the Model # and if its still under warranty as I strongly believe you are having an issue with the main power supply. Blessings always, A/V Media Tech guy
I have the same problem. The only way to get the TV to come on is to unplug it, but once you get it back on it turns itself off again in a few minutes.
