Question about Dakota Dodge RB4 Navigation, CD, AM/FM, with CD Changer Controls
I purchased the dodge rb4 nav-system and it seems that it does not work. i drove my truck over 800 miles and it does not display any directions. everything seems to be wired ok for my truck and the radio and cd-player is working great. the only thing that is not working is the gps. the unit searches for the city and state and it seems as through it keeps telling me to use the cd for the west coast. i am living on the east coast. do you know how i can resolve this problem? another problem is the gps calibration seems to always display my truck is going in reverse or backwards and their is no pulses to get the unit functioning. can you shed some need light to my problem. i really appreciate it?
Did you install and run the speed sensor wire, as Noggin suggested? And if so, did that take care of it? If not, I can try to dig something up on this - though I know Noggin is probably more knowledgeable in this area than I am, sometimes a problem just needs a fresh perspective.

Here is the link to the user manual if you need it; http://www.rb4navigation.com/RB4-user-manual.pdf Do you have the navigation CD for the east coast?. The unit will not function without this cd being used initially to prime the system with data. (Page 69) Check page 114 and make sure the correct region is selected - if that is set on west coast it could be the root of the problem. Check page 116 - try recalibrating, then see what info is displayed. The time should be correct and steady, and check your correct position from a friend's nav system, see if what your unit is displaying is about right. If it is displaying no position, check in the middle of the screen where it says sat: 05/07. see how many satellites your unit thinks it can see - less than three and it won't function at all, 5+ is pretty much essential if you are moving. Where it says Fix:3 at the top left - what do you have on your unit? (check the next page for a description), this may tell us more about the problem. check if the time being displayed is correct - if not then the unit is looking at the wrong page in the almanac, and wont find anything if none of those items are right, then the prime suspect is the GPS antenna and it's connections and cable. These are the most likely thing to fail in a gps other than the power supply. Check all the connections and cables thoroughly, at the unit and at the antenna, if still no luck then a new antenna should solve the problem The distance pulse/going backwards problem is definitely either the sensor, the cable or the connections - couldn't find any info where this is, but my guess would be either; near the gearbox - the same place where the speedometer sensor/cable comes out, or direct from the vehicle computer as a composite of several sensors info, which would make the vehicle sensor array computer a prime suspect - if the same info is displayed anywhere else in the vehicle correctly (speedometer for instance) then the GPS unit or more likely the cable from the sensor array is the culprit. The distance pulse/ direction info should not prevent you from getting a position when not moving, although it would quite possibly cause a brain malfuction in the unit while moving, I think the unit would automatically choose the satellite info if the signal is ok though. recently the software support for this unit has been discontinued, and customer reviews are to be honest a lot less than great - rather than spending lots of money having this fixed or getting a new antenna etc, I would consider buying a replacement unit - please ask if you want advice on what to get Hope this helps - post back with details of the info on those screens discussed etc and we can hopefully come up with a definite problem before wildly replacing things :)

I have the feeling in that case that the problem is with the East coast CD or reading it.
Only way I can think of to check this theory for sure is to go into the west coast CD area yourself if you can, or borrow another East coast CD from someone with the same unit.
Can you read the 2 Cds with a PC? - it should at least come up with a message hopefully describing if it is unreadable or just of an unreadable format. If there is a difference with the 2 then I think we may have found the problem.
Clean it - wipe it with a slightly wet with soapy water soft rag - good quality, clean t-shirt type material is best. If it has a lot of scratches, then clean the scratches one at a time starting with the worst, use fine abrasive metal polish like Brasso and try and polish from the centre to the outside one scratch at a time. try not to get the polish or too much finger grease on the foil side of the CD.
If cleaning the disc properly doesn't help, then the only other possibility other than a major chip problem I can think of is that the reader lens is dirty.
Not been able to find detailed instructions on how to do it for this unit, but if you can figure out how to get access to the lens, then just clean it gently with first blowing, then use gin on a cotton bud/ Q-tip, dont try to move the lens carriage if possible.
Please post back with any results/ questions from this, hope it helps :)
Check this link, last paragraph;
"c) You will need to install and run a speed sensor wire from your vehicle, and connect it to the J1850/PCI lead, of the 22-pin connector (of the 82207541 adapter).
I do NOT have the details for such adaption to older vehicles. I know it has been done."
Hopefully sheds some light on a possible solution :)

SOURCE: Dodge RB4 GPS system
I have the RB4 GPS system in my 2005 Ram 1500 Laramie and the GPS Cd's are out of date. Is there an updated version? If so, where do I get one. I went to the dealer and they wanted $400 for new CD's.

I have tried everything mentioned prior to making this posting in fixya.com for help. i have both set of cd's, one for the east coast and west coast. i have replaced the antenna and purchased the single 22-pin connector adapter kit to fit my 2001 dodge Dakota. i have tried to find out if the 22-pin adapter needs to be connected in order to rec'd a signal from my vehicles transmission and or speedometer sensor/cable. but info on the internet is vague or not available. no one is able to provide any clear instructions on how the unit is suppose to be connected. the adapter list onhttp://www.wjjeeps.com/radio_02adaptor1.... is the same item i used to install the rb4 but, i have a question regarding the pin setup to get the gps working properly. thus no one has been able to respond to my question. the radio and cd player works great but the gps is not working properly. it does find 5 to 9 satellites but in navigation mode it states ?please wait? while it calculates the route. It does display the number of satellites, latitude and longitude and elevation at sea level but will not show the street directions on how to get their. Onhttp://www.rb4navigation.com/RB4-user-ma... no# 118, distance pulses: 0 driving directions: reverse, gyros: -(15) to (4000) calibrations status: 0(4). This portion is not working at all. Onhttp://www.rb4navigation.com/RB4-user-ma... no# 116 this is the information that is displayed on my unit while driving or I am looking for references to a unknown or known position that is displayed on the unit. This works fine. Slide onhttp://www.rb4navigation.com/RB4-user-ma... no# 111, just forget it. All I receive is ?please wait while your route is being calculated? this information on the screen stays until I have reached my destination. I believe my problem is with the pin connection assignment on the adapter. Something needs to get a signal from my vehicle to the unit but no one has been able to tell me which pin on the adapter is responsible for the signal. Do you know which pin assignment is responsible for the signal? Sincerely
