My computer makes the "connection chime" when I plug in the Panasonic PV-Gs31 thru the firewire (not usb) but the computer will not recognize that anything is connected--I'm hoping to do a direct-to-dvd project using Sonic My DVD--but won't work. Strange thing is, it used to work last time I tried (about 8 months ago). Don't know what I have changed. Thanks for any help you can give me.
I had the same problem, eventually I had to restore my pc from a recovery point and somehow it was fixed along with a bunch of other issues. Somehow you need to be able to flush the USB port. --this is not a solution, just an observation--

You are not alone in this concern. I have the same model which has been used right along and all of a sudden it is not being recognized as a capture device in Windowss Movie Maker. We have tried on four different computers and have downloaded the newest drivers still with no results.
